Does Calzaghe have anything left to prove?

Calzaghe Lacy was on of the most dominating performances of the decade. Someone on HBO even commented enough, forget who. But it was at least one of, the most one sided bouts, certainly for a unification fight where the under dog did the dominating as well.Last edited by Kris Silver; 12-20-2008, 12:44 PM.Comment

don't forget he pretty much lost to omar sheika before he fought calzaghe so all that ruined by calzaghe **** is clearly wrong.Comment

Men rarely recover from a savage beat down. Lacy was clearly a better fighter before Calzaghe than after. In any case it doesn't matter, Lacy would have had to make significant changes in his style to have any chance against Calzaghe or Kessler or any other top level opponent. Lacy is just another one of those dumbass punchers, like Sam Peter, who fell in love with his power and never learned his trade.Comment

I don't think he has anything left to prove but I would like to see him fight Dawson, it would just make his legacy that much better. If he wins he cleared out two divisions beating multiple former/future/current world champs and remained undefeated.Comment

He looked terrible in his fights AFTER Calzaghe, I think the beatdown has something to do with it. He looked bad against Sheika but got the win (no one complained about it at the time)Comment

He has beaten already two, Lacy and Kessler. And, whatever may have happened since, a 'young lion' is very much what Lacy was when Calzaghe not only beat but destroyed him. The trouble with 'young lions' is that you never know how good they are until after the event, sometimes a long time after it.. we still don't with Kessler because nobody (maybe bar Froch) has the balls to fight him. Likewise with Dawson. I'm not saying the guy isn't a great fighter with great potential but at the moment we don't know. At the end of the day he's beaten a shot Tarver and pinched a highly debatable win against Glenn Johnson. And that's it.
Look at it this way. Calzaghe beats Dawson. Dawson then proceeds to lose to any of Kessler, B-Hop, Tarver, or whoever, in his next fight. What then of Calzaghe's 'legacy'? Dawson's scalp has added bugger all to it ("he was always over-rated"), just as you seem to think is the case with Lacy. I'm not saying Dawson isn't a great fighter, or that he doesn't deserve a pop at JC.. but I just don't see anything in it for Calzaghe. Dawson obviously has a lot to gain in terms of his legacy if he wins, but Joe really doesn't.Last edited by The_Visitation; 12-20-2008, 01:10 PM.Comment

Who the **** is that?lol Just as much as Manny Pacqyow.
But I know we won't see it from either, I think the first chance either takes a loss or gets put into a real shoot out they'll retire. Either way, the sooner they leave the sooner we can see some raw talent square off against raw talent.

He ain't no joke! A little unproven, maybe, but a joke? No way! He's a very good boxer, but I'm not sure he's ready to mix it up with elite level competition at this point in in his career.
I can't seem to STFU about it, but Dawson should rematch Johnson and beat him more convincingly. Until then, I don't think he's earned a shot at JC.
Dawson is the one with things to prove. Calzaghe doesn't need to prove anything, but if he beat Dawson, he'd shut a lot of mouths and couldn't really be doubted at all. Or am I fooling myself? Would Dawson automatically become "an over-rated bum who was never that good anyway, and Joe needs to fight ________" ? (fill in the blank).
