This is pretty much it i'd think. People become boxers because they like boxing and primarily fighting.

However I would also think it's because the money is not what it was at least in comparison to other sports.

Over here boxing always enjoys a renaissance after the Olympics. Here if you medal in the Olympics you going to be a millionnaire. I'm sure that inspires alot of would-be boxers to go for it.

It's not the only reason but a big factor.

But someone from the street is usually out for themselves. How can they adapt to the idea of depending on one another?

I just think that they're aren't that many big ass "thugs" who would like to pursue boxing seriously. In America at least.
You ever been to a boxing gym?

Delahoay was a a gangster from East Los, he was one crazy sob, he was known in y.a all through out l.a county but boxing saved him.

and a guy like Vince Carter has freakish athletic abilities yet during games he settles for fade aways from beyond the 3 because he's afraid of driving down the lane

don't get me wrong I'm sure there were some potential great boxers that were deterred from entering the sport and instead pursued other sports but there's a lot of of other great athletes that never had the heart to be pro fighters
          great post man

i accept that but you also gotta accept that, that is tied to the fact that more eastern Europeans are being allowed to compete and Britain along with other countries like the Flillipines,Puerto Rico are improving there are more Cubans turning pro etc etc

I'm gonna repeat my first post again, what about in the 80's when the HW division was absolute ****? And it was mostly American boxers. Let's say they went to NFL/NBA, then in the 90's when the HW division starts rising again, they switch back to boxing?

As long as the fights are good I don't care what ethnicity the HW's are.
