I would laugh my ass off if Cotto is beat by Jennings or elects to not rematch Margarito. THen what would Margarito do?

naw. if cotto can, he'll fight margarito again. he wants a chance to revenge that beating he took.......

First of all, Cotto at that point in his career was worth 1.2M more than margo is worth now. Cotto was the undefeated champ who had a very good career at 140 and came up in weight and beat highly rated quintana in his first match. then went on to KO judah. Margo strugled with an injured Clotey, lost to William, beat golden johnson, and KOd Cotto (didn't look very impressive untill the KO).

Second, Mosly was a lot more valuable as a fight back when facing cotto than he is now. His last 2 fights took away from his value. Before cotto, mosley schooled collazo (who according to many was robbed against the undefeated Hatton), beat Vargas twice. True he had lost to winky, but loosing to winky is nothing to be ashamed of. At the time of the cotto fight, there was more money in the pot, so both of the fighter were able to get paid more.

Third, the fight has not taken place yet, so you don't know that Marg will KO Mosly. Pavlik fans made the same asumption and we all saw how that turned out.

this is exactly what i keep saying....the fact margarito just beat cotto doesn't change anything. i'm surprised shane was willing to split 50-50 w/ margarito......

problem is, after he beat cotto, margarito CALLED OUT shane mosley, and has been talking **** about him being scared to fight him. neither you nor margarito make any sense right now....

no. that's the problem. u never let your emotions get involved in business. i keep hearing, "PW turned down an immediate rematch the first time, so margarito is paying him back," or "2 MILL, is a slap in margarito's face even though it'll be a career payday, and shane is doing a 50-50 split with him."

you let your emotions get in the way of business, and you're gonna end up sitting out for a year, waiting for a rematch w/ cotto, where you'll still end up making less than you would have for mosley or PW.....makes a lot of sense huh?

Typical delusional margarito fan. You dont pass on $2 million to thumb your nose at somebody because you THINK you will make that much in a rematch with Cotto. As someone said before, what if Jennings beats the breaks off Cotto? Or what if Cotto simply passes on the rematch? Then he would have no viable options at 147. Williams has moved on. Shane wouldnt give him the time of day anymore i.e. Zab Judah, and he aint NEVER fighting Oscar. So what would be his option? It is a totally UNWISE business move to depend heavily on your promoter to make fights with you soley with your stablemates. And unless Tony is planning to retire after the Cotto fight, sitting out a year for Cotto money makes NO SENSE.

marg needs to realize that he'll never get dlh. he isn't a name or draw and his legacy is not great. he needs to put some names on it and mosley though old would still look good on it.

yea, but if cotto loses his next fight......even if he accepts the margarito rematch, it won't get half the number of buys it did the first time....matter of fact, it might end up on regular HBO.....

but all that just adds to the point that margarito makes no sense by passing up on the paydays w/ shane or PW, just to sit around for an entire year to fight a guy he beat already....cotto wanting the rematch badly, i'd understand, but the rematch won't be as big for margarito as the first fight was.....he'd definitely get more credit for avenging that loss to PW, than for beating cotto a second time. in that case, cotto just becomes kermit cintron...

Amen. Outside of his most staunch supporters, this move makes absolutely no sense to anybody. Who is he going to fight after Cotto? NOBODY is going to fight him and let him command the lionshare of the purse. His only options right now are Cotto and Clottey. And to be perfectly honest, I think more people would rather see Clottey fight than Cotto.
