for fun. thats the only reason I post on these forums. well that and to learn more about boxing...can always learn something new.

besides, Wiley hasnt been seen on these forums since he was wrong about Hatton knocking out Mayweather, we have to savour the moment before he runs off again.

Because if you are looking strictly at statistics....the argument can be made. Cal is top 2. I'm not saying he is the greatest. I argue both sides, but, there is an argument to be made....and it's rational because its based on the records. Furthermore, Cal's defense is one of the very best. I'll argue that all day.

Calzaghe has lots of strong points, but try not to go overboard with his defence. hes been dropped four times, 3 of those times he was pretty hurt, and has been open to right hands his whole career. Robin Reid in particular was really nailing him with right hands in the mid portion of their fight, very dominant 5th and 6th rounds I believe.

I mean its good, but there are much more impressive things about Calzaghe than his defence.

Like someone else pointed out, he's nowhere near the greatest of all time. He might MIGHT make top 30 but his defense for a pressure fight is pretty darn good. Most pressure fighters have little defense at all bt Calzaghe has a defense that's only ben expolited a handful of times and Hopkins was one of those.

Well, Chris John is 42-0 with a win over P4P #2 Juan Manuel Marquez...we certainly aren't considering Chris John as a first ballot HOF much less ATG...

Roy Jones in the first round was still pretty fast IMO, Hopkins is one of the best counter punchers of today he solves people there defense, offense everything so to get caught by Hopkins is nothing to be ashamed about.

Salem and Mitchell were years ago when Joe was starting his run as champ at 168 hell even Hopkins got dropped early on in his career against Mercado

He's been down, but never really hurt. We need to qualify that. If Calzaghe's defense is not his best asset, what do you assert is? Please don't say "workrate." That is an overused term as it applies to Calzaghe because; what good is output if you cannot effectively connect or you get knocked out?
