That was after years of wars for Benn though and should be taken into account. However, Malinga was a tough out for Benn the first time too. Styles etc. (Hearns-Barkley anyone). Jones resume in general is finally getting its second look. It's really quite excellent, and perspective is being applied. Like Joe, it's not good enough to merit rating with a handful of the best ever; it's not in the league of Rob or Langford or Greb or even Duran...but so the hell what? It's outstanding on its own merits and rates nicely with the next tier of greats like Griffith and IMO Tunney (especially since Tunney wouldn't fight black fighters). That's ATG enough.

yeah....i did mention Benn had lost to Collins.........so he wanted a cashout with Jones.....its when the fight was actually finally about to happen according to interviews with Jones-Benn.....but then Malinga beat him........ha, and as you said, Malinga gave enn fits IN his prime anyway....

personally i cant judge fighters whose video footage is minimal or inexistant though......so i cant say about langford......haha...but youre right, i guess Jones will finally get some recognition in the future....he beat a bunch of future champions, but i hope they also recognise how he destroyed fighters that gave fits to other very good and great fighters......i mean look at how he destroyed merqui sosa-the afore mentioned malinga, reggie johnson, Glenn Wolfe, Woods, Griffin.....no one was ever close to doing to those guys what roy did.....

Just read Langford's record. There's at least a little footage but he fought the best from Lightweight to Heavyweight. Just a freak. Fought Seven world champs and five Hall guys who didn't win World titles. Hell, he knocked out Tiger Flowers when he was damn near blind and old as hell. That makes Hopkins win over Pavlik look average. Just incredible.

Joe pulled it off, it was a close figth but Robin Reid let rounds go away. 7-5 Calzaghe, in a very competitive fight with Reid.

Here's a taste...not great footage but look at the left uppercut and overhand right...ahead of its time.

It was very similar to Dawson vs. Johnson - the better-skilled Ottke won the early and some middle rounds, but eventually was worn down by Reid's relentless aggression. Ottke was hurt in the 12th, and if it would have gone another round, Ottke would have been KOed. It was actually a close fight that could have either way on the cards - people who've actually watched it are more upset by the way the referee protected Ottke, than the judges scores.
It wasn't anything like Dawson-Johnson, Dawson landed hard punches Ottke did not, Dawson argueably won the fight (IMO he did) Ottke did not. Reid was warned for hitting Ottke in the face, that fight was a disgrace.

                      Somebody fill me in.
Don't listen to that BS. Robbed? Reid lost a split decision against a bad version of Joe Calzaghe with a broken hand and recovering from food poisoning.

If anyone tries to tell you Reid was robbed, get this: Robin Reid admitted, while sitting with Joe during the post-fight interview, that JOE won the fight.

That's all anyone needs to know: Reid himself thought Joe won.

I can hook you up with the fight if you want, I know where to find it.

I scored the fight 7-5 to Joe at the very least. There was nothing controversial about this fight.
