"Boxing is dying SLOWLY.."- Dana White

It's crazy that the UFC accepts its own "faces" to be complete morons/lunatics. Guys like Dana White are the face of MMA. I don't understand what Dana White has against boxing. Why does he continually bring it up? Does he see boxing fans ditching that sport for MMA? I don't know.
But if Oscar De La Hoya, Gary Shaw, Don King, or Bob Arum started dissing MMA they would catch a lot of flak. That is the difference. There is such thing as "professionalism".
The athletes make the sport. I see a lot of MMA prospects getting beat and exposed. Brock Lesnar is about to get whooped by Randy Couture, that fight shouldn't even be happening. I could go on and on, MMA is a fad. It's just like Texas Hold 'em poker, only I see it staying around for a bit longerComment

Another thing...if the economy gets worse, does it hurt or help boxing?
I see it hurting boxing because some of the big promotion companies wouldn't be able to put on big fights or w/e
But then, maybe they will see that PPV is not gonna cut it. You could see boxing on network television. And if the economy was real bad, maybe it would draw more kids to the sport. Boxing thrived in the Great DepressionComment

I don't think boxing is dying. It's slowing down compared to previous decades when Tyson et al were headline news, but it's still a fixture in international sports. Dana White keeps talking about boxing because it provokes debate and it keeps MMA in the mix.
Honestly, I don't see MMA growing too much bigger. I don't really follow it, but just as a casual observer, it seems to me like MMA is stalling a bit, it certainly doesn't seem as exciting or progressive as it may have seemed just a couple years ago.
The one thing that I really dislike about Dana White's UFC is the whole UFC xx format. It's like, I hear on the radio about UFC 45 or something, and I think damn, they're ALREADY up to 45? I have no clue what UFC 22 or UFC 36 or whatever was about.
Compare that to the boxing promotions such as DLH-Pacquiao, and it's like okay, I know about that card, and I hope there's a good undercard, etc.
When the radio stations blares UFC 45, the first thing that comes to mind is Wrestlemania. I seriously picture a bunch of roided out guys in tights grappling and rolling around on the ground. Does not really interest me at all.Comment

You're so ****** it hurts.
You know why UFC PPV's are declining? Because the UFC broadcasts its events for free on MMA TV, PPV buys mean **** when you're selling T-Shirts for 100 ****ing dollars.Comment

I haven't heard DLH badmouth the sport. In fact, he's hung out with several high profile members and is helping Affliction with production duties of it's next event. It's crazy that the UFC accepts its own "faces" to be complete morons/lunatics. Gary Shaw can't really talk, because he's a criminal in that he admitted to manipulating MMA matches and is starving fighters just so he can feed his own greed.
And all the rest are looking at MMA through UFC's early days and haven't once took the time to ask a question or two about the sport. They're McDojoists. Bullshido Artists who think their sport is ABSOLUTE and FLAWLESS. Yet need it bashed over their heads that standing up isn't the only way of fighting.
Yes, Dana is an *******, but within all his stinging jabs, there is some truth. Boxing isn't dead or dying slowly, but you got to at least admit that it's stagnate in the US.
If you mean something like Slice/Petruzelli, you can't use that. It was a match that went pear shaped and couldn't be salvaged. It was a boxing construct of a MMA fighter vs. a vet. Even with the match manipulated, Kimbo lost to a Light heavyweight. The athletes make the sport. I see a lot of MMA prospects getting beat and exposed. Brock Lesnar is about to get whooped by Randy Couture, that fight shouldn't even be happening. I could go on and on, MMA is a fad. It's just like Texas Hold 'em poker, only I see it staying around for a bit longer
Other then that, you get a lot of guys who have others numbers or totally outclass them in certain aspects. It's all part of the game. Parity is how we likes it.Comment

exactly, long term economic down turn HELPS boxing in that people will turn to boxing because that's where the money's at. If the ******s start gettin poorer ain't no one gonna be doing that gay MMA **** because as someone else pointed out even the top fighters in UFC get paid like 30,000$ per fight and only the biggest STARS can net over 100k per fight, whereas in boxing even bums from tijuana mejico often make hundreds of thousands per fightAnother thing...if the economy gets worse, does it hurt or help boxing?

No. They're just going to get to their commercial sports pub early to get a seat, order natchos and a pop for ten bucks and watch more UFC events.Comment
