Good post. Most of that is true.My theory on UFC.
It was new and exciting. It became popular because of ****e TV. It was/is an era of "reality TV" and UFC cashed in on that, and attracted a ton of fans.
Its its core its a borring sport. Considering the fan base of UFC, what attracted those fans in the first place was the excitment of a new sport. Now that excitment (equivalent of buying a new pair of Jordans) wore off, just like your Jordan 8s aint cris no more, and people are getting borred. The moment they get borred they stop watching and its all over.
The only way that UFC can survive, is if they completly reform the sport and introduce a ton of new rules which will prevent what we find as borring ways of fighting.
UFC never had any nationalistic undertone. Its kind of a united nations, sport of the world, racial harmony type of sport (very progressive and new age, but people still find that borring).
Boxing on the other hand always was an international sport, and the fact that they play the anthem of your country, along with a big flag centre of the ring in a big arena at capacity creates a fan response like no other. THe nationality of a fighter is still a big deal, and the bottom line is that people still LOVE a state vs. state fight. UK VS USA, RUSSIA VS UKRAINE, MEXICO VS PUERTO RICO....
Boxing is a global sport, its a culture within itself. UFC is not.
Boxing will never die....UFC will loose a majority of its fan base because of reasons listed above. It will not die, but it will never be the sport that boxing is. I mean.......they do televise volleyball, meaning someone is watching......same can be said for the future of UFC, unless some changes take place.
The real reason MMA will never reach boxing levels though is the simple fact that their fighters don't have anywhere near the skill level of top boxers.
Who knows perhaps this could change someday but I suppose it could be that the inherent nature of the sport makes it thus, because by becoming jacks of all trades they are masters of none and as such all aspects of their game look sloppy. When they stand up it's boring because their punches and kicks are inferior to what a boxer or kickboxer can do, when they go to the ground it's boring because one guy might be good at the ground game but the other one is usually highly inferior by comparison so he gets choked out or taps out in the most amateur of ways.
There's too much of a giant discrepancy in skill levels, look at "top guys" like Silvia getting destroyed by Emelianenko in like 20 seconds of the first round. And he wasn't "knocked out" by a lucky shot like in boxing, no he was dominated in those 20 seconds and choked out because his fat ass looked like a beach whale flapping around on the floor. No one likes to watch unexciting trash like that.Comment

That happens a lot outside the US. It can happen in the US, but it doesn't work if the rivalry is based off of blind nationalism. Sure, you'll have Pinoys cheering on Pac and Boriquas will be cheering on DLH, but both fans respect the other opponent's skill. We still have *******s calling great Korean fighters "****s". Until we clear that up, no way are we going to have national rivalries.

On the other hand, we have school rivalries to aleviate it.Comment
