I had a friend that was 6'2 and 160 lbs. He was really wiry and veiny and definitely not the type to get plump, ever. Well for some ****** reason he abused steroids "probably from peer pressure" and ended up getting fat as hell. The steroids messed with this thyroid gland and hormones. He looked ridiculous

Same thing happened to Fernando vargas and the same thing happend to James Toney.

And no I'm not a doctor and can't prove it, but common sense tells me I am right.
Toney was known to cut weight from 200+ lbs even during his prime days.

He has an eating problem and admits it.

yeah youre right about him giving valuev and chagaev problems

but honestly the morons on here think size is everything......yeah its a factor but it aint everything, and when the skill difference favours the smaller man it can be negated
if that were true, mike tyson, Joe Frazier, David Tua, Hasim Rahman, Evander Holyfield, etc. would never be competing, its all about what kind of heart and skills you have, the conditionioning and power and your will, not how tall you are, valuev would be undefefeated if he did all that

Seriously, several day after the fight with Roy Jones, he kicked down his managers door and pulled a gun on her and the rest of the folks that were there at the time. Crazy Toney

hes kinda like the boxing version of shaq o neal, if highly motivated , it is quite impossible to stop this man, both toney and shaq ****ed up their legacies by not staying in shape, they both are great but they couldve been greater, shaq wouldve been considered the greatest center of all time , toney may be considered greatest cruiserweight of all time, but they were too highly unmotivated eating too much pollo loco with crazy bread on the side

I can't relate to **** talkers, but I have to admit hearing James talke all that jazz is sometimes very funny.
Throw in Roberto Duran there also. Watched Duran v Barkley and Duran's defensive moves reminded me of Toney. Sam Langford and Battling Siki also come to mind. The way he KOd Everett and left hook that almost de-capitated Earl Buttler had shades of Joe Louis.

Outside the ring he's Jack Johnson all over. Even gave Jirov the trademark Jack Johnson wave at the end of the 1st round like Johnson gave to Tommy Burns in their Title fight. And when he also talks to his corner when he's getting hit with chopping shots on his hard-head is Johnson-esque! LOL

James Toney was a very, very good fighter, if only he had more discipline.

James Toney was a very good fighter, in his prime he was a studnet of the game and was all round fighter, good chin, good stamina, heart, decent power, great skills and good boxing brain. He's beat some great fighters over the years Michael Nunn,Reggie Johnson,Mike McCallumx2,Iran Barkley,Vassiliy Jirov,Evander Holyfield, and fought some of the best of his era. Could blow hot and cold but on his day was brillant, could of had more discipline.
