The Toney fight took it all from him, and he was never the same again. Its just like he had a mental block. He had Joe Mesi hurt bad about 4 times during the fight and would be winning whenever ht let his hands go, but he didn't believe in himself so he was just passive.
hey Slick i just saw your Sweet Pea avator

i watched Whitaker v McGirt 2 the other day what a fight i thought Whitaker had no balls based on his fights with ODLH,Chavez,Nelson, until i saw that he sat down on his shots and actually took it too Buddy and hurt him occasionally

i thought that was his greatest victory because he was too old and jirov was a young buck who was on top, gramps surprised me in the 12th where he kdd jirov for a 2 point round in a close decision where toney pulled off the victory by one point in my opinion

hmm you make a decent point there

toney would clean up at CW, but at this stage of his career i think hes just too old and lazy to get down to 200

Toney had some awesome knockouts late on did'nt he

he did Nunn,Jirov,Prince Charles all near the end of the fight

my fav Toney move was when someone rushed at him and reached with the jab he would pat the jab down and come over the top with a right hand just the way Tommy Hearns used to do come to think of it i bet that is where he got the move from

Did you watch Whitaker against Hurtado and Trinidad? I thought he showed a ton of heart in those fights.

He used to say he would quit even if he only got cut in a fight but he certainly didn't quit against them even though he was behind and past his prime.

Yeah he could show power when he chose to. You should see his fight with Hurtado. Not only did he knock him out but it was brutal..lol. Hurtado was out for a long time. It was the fight to set up his fight with Oscar and he was past his prime, and that was a time that was more reliant on his power. Hurtado's( was unbeaten at the time) style was giving his trouble though, and he dropped pea about 2 times.

He also had Roger Mayweather pretty hurt to, he dropped him with a rook hook. Mayweather was never known for his chin though.

When you see Toney fight, there is a lot of the old master's influences in his game. You'll see some Jersey Joe Walcott, Archie Moore, and a little of Ezzard in there, very entertaining to watch overall. I can't relate to **** talkers, but I have to admit hearing James talke all that jazz is sometimes very funny.

Trinidad was stunned a little by Whitaker which surprised me but other than that he beat up an old Whitaker as well as he should have.
