Does anyone really like Calzaghe outside of the UK?

A punch doesn't have to be powerfull at all to cause a cut, it's more about where it lands and what part of the glove hits than anything else. Most of the cuts comming from punches in boxing are actually from grazing punches.
32 stoppages I'm guessing were self inflicted as well.

I don't understand the venom and immaturity that spills out after these fights.

I was rooting for Joe, who I think fought a great fight but I found it very difficult to see Jones taking hits as the fight went on. I wanted him to pull out a 'vintage Jones' round later on in the fight, even just so that people could say they saw 'glimpses' of a prime Roy.

Now the forum is dominated by Calzaghe fans slandering the U.S and Jones and vice versa.

I wish the fight had come earlier, of course. We all do. But I think Calzaghe would be competitive with anyone at super middleweight. I didn't particularly like the taunting in the final round either. However I think he performed his job brilliantly and certainly don't think he deserves the venom aimed at him in this forum.

Jones was a class act and fought bravely. And I would have thought his dip**** corner had heard of vaseline. I think he is far removed from his prime but I happen to think that Joe is past his as well.

Either way respect should be given to BOTH fighters if there are real boxing fans out here. All of this boring, predictable, bull**** U.S/U.K hysteria is bringing the place down.

This is boxing, the 'noble' art.

I knew you were going to be comming back with this, i had a bit of hope you were smart enough to not venture into ****** land, but anyway.

Calzaghe used to be able to punch it seems, but i don't really know because at that time he was fighting nobodies in Europe for about 10 years. But now, as he said himself his hands are ****ed up and that's why he resorted to slapping. Now i have not seen many Calzaghe fights, i sure saw the Manfredo stoppage though, who wouldn't remember such a bull**** stoppage where a guy was stopping all the punches with his gloves. Was the referee worried about Manfredo's gloves getting hurt?

By the way, are you really trying to convince me Calzaghe is a puncher?

Like i said, i respect Calzaghe for what he has accomplished, i just dont enjoy seeing him fight. What i enjoy even less are some of his fans, you know the ones like you that try to make it sound he is a power puncher extraordinaire and many other things when the facts state otherwise?

46 wins tells me his punch is effective enough.

and where did I say he was a power puncher?

            Never, not once.

            Effective, but not powerful.

32 stoppages don't come from slaps.

I couldn't say, i saw like 5 complete Calzaghe fights and a couple of highlights.

But the Manfredo stoppage indeed came from slaps, don't know about the rest.

Hitting with an open glove is illegal in case you weren't aware. Opening a glove is what one would need to do to slap.

Time to get off the slap-wagon.

American and never been a fan of his style. It gets the job done for him but it's absolutely hideous to watch a 168-175 lb'er punch with literally no power at all and use his speed to juke the judges.

im going to be fair here about Calz

he did impress me a helluva a lot with his win over Kessler and he has always been willing to fight his heart out and go to war i personally cant stand him but i would not describe him as boring he is not MR excitement dont get me wrong but he has been in some entertaining fights with Brewer,Mitchell,Eubank,Reid,Kesser etc
