I mean who has he faced that we would consider a great fighter. As far as Lacy I do give Joe more credit for beating Lacy, but you must remember Americans never considered Lacy a GREAT FIGHTER we have always seen him as a good fighter with the potential to be a great one. He never reached greatness. Can you imagine what Hopkins would do to Lacy and Kessler. Let's be real man. As far as you saying every major publication having joe as the second GFOTW. Come on man that remark right there insults your intelligence. I will give you the benefit of the doubt on that one, you problaby had too much to drink. People have to learn to differentiate between GOOD fighters and GREAT fighters.
Cheers buddy (nice to see someone else who can spell/punctuate and not resort to playground antics), but check the pound 4 pound listings on this site, or The Ring, or secondsout etc; You wont find Calzaghe lower than 3rd anywhere credible on the pound 4 pound lists (not my own list). P4P lists are always open 2 debate so who do you have above him personally? I got Calzaghe equal with B-Hop and below Pacquiao, Marquez and probably Vasquez respectively (I'd love to put Margarito in there but that's just favouritism). I'm not the 1 who makes the ratings though so my intelligence is intact 4 now unless you wanna query my personal opinion on P4P lol

Fair point on Kessler it could be just me seeing what I see in him, guess time will tell but I'd love to see him fight Hopkins to find out (though I'd rather see Hopkins Vs Dawson). As for Lacy, I'm 50/50 with you there - everyone was saying he's the super middleweight Mike Tyson, but then all you have to do is shove a 'next' in there b4 the words 'Mike Tyson' and you've got what you say - potential to be great rather than actual greatness. I still don't think anyone can argue with Calzaghe being Hall Of Fame bound. I actually hate writing that 'cos it makes me sound like a Calzaghe fan-boy and I'm really not.

**** was even more embarassing being there. Roy was gettin clowned in there. Then after the fight he said something about he couldn't figure out what strategy he wanted to use or wateva.

Strange how people are praising Jones for losing, whilst putting down Calzaghe for winning.

Same happened with the Hopkins fight.

Im not sure what else Calzaghe could of done in. Seems it impossible for him to convince his critics.

They praise Hopkins for beating Pavlik, yet still say Calzaghe beat 'old man' Hopkins!

I agree that its unfair.. Personally, though, I am just singling out this particular fight. Hell, I said it in this thread itself:

both the Kessler and Lacy fights- even the Hopkins win- have more significance than this.

For me its the way in which Calzaghe performed.

I thought he could KO Jones early the way Tarver had done years ago. It would be meaningless.

But Jones still threw some very fast shots that Calzaghe either took flush (the uppercut), or slipped with such ease it was a great defensive exhibition at times.

Jones is still fast, and i dont think ANYONE out there could have done that to him.

2 guys already did it to RJJ.... Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver. They also KTFO RJJ spectacularly.

it didn't matter whether it went 12 rounds or 1st round KO... THIS WAS A MEANINGLESS FIGHT!!!

Actually, Joe got credit for a win and Roy got credit for a loss.

This was an actual fight whether you like it or not.

Or should I start bringing up Floyds meaningless fights?

Don't bring up Floyd's meaningless fights, you'd have to include almost 75% of his total....maybe much more. And...PLEASE don't include Hopkins' maningless fights, which have been, at least for the past 10- years so, equally meaningless. Except for Trinidad, who was not only out of his natural and best weight, BUT most significantly, had stayed in New York to help after 9/11 (which hindered his training badly) I can't think of one. "Money-full", yes, but "meaningful"......

I liked the article, it was a good one as Rold often produces, but I disagree with the Headline. We saw the "Best of Joe Calzaghe" for many years, but didn't notice it, and, certainly with Lacy and particularly the 2-belt holder Kessler, we saw the same Calzaghe as with Jones. No one else could have fought Jones for 12 eounds with this overwhelming result.

                      Just my opinion.
