Roy Jones is probably my favorite modern fighter, ever. And not once did I ever feel like he had a chance in this. Did I root for him? Sure. But for Joe Calzaghe to win a fight in which he was the 5 to 2 betting favorite is by no means a screaming endorsement of his status (whatever that may be).

Sorry, but people are gonna have to try harder if they want to put Joe on that pedestal. Stop grasping at straws and pick something legitimate to reward him with.
I agree with your assessment 100%. Calzhage has proven himself a great fighter. I covered this fight live at press row, for a local publication in NY. Calzhage deserves credit but I hesitate to heap anymore credit on this victory, than is merited. This was not a defining victory by any means.

I have followed the careers of both gentleman, live on many occasions. Having said that, the man Calzhage fought tonight was not "RJ", it was OJ (Old Jones). I watched from ringside and sat next to Steve Farhood, who commented that the RJ of a few years ago would have knocked out Calzhage, in the first round, when Roy had him hurt.If this was RJ from 5 years ago, Calzhage would have been down and out.Again I think Calzhage is a great fighter, however I wish he would take the chance and fight Chad Dawson. Having said that, it was a great night and damn those Welsh women!

It was nice 2 see Calzaghe punching instead of slapping for the first time in several years... Even if he saved it for an over-the-hill RJJ.

To call him one of the all time greats is reaching too far. He just beat a Roy that was just as Joe has stated before " A shadow of the boxer he use to be". Roy has been washed up for years now. He looked old and even the commentators who are American by the way stated repeatedly that this was not the old ROY. The roy who was dominating with phenomenal speed and power. The Roy I saw today was A SHADOW OF WHAT HE ONCE WAS. Not even close. Pavlik on the other hand is at his prime and Joe has avoided him for a while. Hopkins took care of him and I hope Joe has the balls to face Hopkins again. I think he will be forced too. I can see that Hopkins still bugs Joe. Joe went out of his way to demean Hopkins by calling roy a bigger Legend. That is a ***** move. I smell rotten apples from joe. To hold another fighter nuts to just trash another one is what I call A ***** MOVE. Beyond that I thought Joe fought a great fight and showed a lot of heart to get up after being dropped and just dominate Roy. I actually thought Roy would make it more interesting but that just shows how far gone he is. At the end of the day Joe waited too long to face legitimate competition to be considered an all time great. That question will always be there. Hopkins vs Joe II I would love to see that fight. Now BERNARD HOPKINS is truly one of the all time greats. That's undisputed.
no it is disputed! you want to see a ***** move, then how about going down holding your nuts when you have been hit in the thigh! calzaghe desrves his rank amongst the greatest of all time.not hopkins.how any of the 'legends' that he beat did he do so on a level playing field(i.e the weight at which they made their name? answer-not one...dlh-lw/welter,trinidad-welter,winky-lm..he struggled like **** against eastman, and lost twice to the distinctly average taylor.also hopkins is the ultimate ***** fighter, always moaning to the ref in all his fights like a sissy, and when he does get beat he refuses to give the other guy credit! if that is a legend to you then you must be a 24 carat C**T!

I was rooting for RJJ. but the reallity is that was a shadow of what RJJ used to be. he turns 40 in January and a 5-2 underdog. i give calzaghe credit but imo he's still not an ATG. maybe in the UK

This article was complete garbage, just like Calzaghe. The writer was obviously some british f*g. The "best" Calzaghe is one who fights only old, washed up fighters. Calzaghe is a slapping female dog who can't even knock out the glass-chinned shell of his old self in RJJ. Calzaghe is an embarrassment to boxing. It's fighters like him that bring the sport down and make MMA look good.

Ricky was 29 vs a 31 year old Mayweather. Ricky is STILL in is prime. Roy has been shot since 2003. Don't compare Mayweather to Calzaghe, they are completely different. Mayweather at 23 was beating undefeated p4p KO artist Chico corrales whereas Joe was building up his resume on BUMS. Both Lacy and Kessler's resumes look like **** compared to Corrales. Truth is Joe, like Marciano before him, has beaten the best of the previous generation and bailed out on the sight of the current one. The champion is Chad Dawson, he's not some kid coming up, he is ALREADY there, and he's the only one left. Still 40 year old, shot since 03 Jones was more appealing. No surprises here if you know Joe.
