Hopkins was the #1 middle for the ibf. honestly remember, jones wasn't at his best either at that point. But two years after the fight hopkins won the middleweight title from mercado. Hopkins was a damn good fighter when roy beat him. Hopkins wasn't great yet, but damn good. Roy did a good a job in beating hopkins, give the guy some credit. Hop was a tough out even then...
did Jones avoid the best fighters and fight so cautiously cause

"according to reports"Bernard Hopkins was not the number 1 Middleweight in the world when Jones beat him. Lets get some perspecitve please.
According to reports, Dariusz's team offered Jones the fight 3 times in Germany and didnt receive a single offer from Jones to fight in the US. Roy was quoted on German TV saying he'd only fight Dariusz for $10m.....
The stay-at-home thing seems like another cop out to me. Eubank, Benn and Collins all fought in America yet they didnt get close to a fight with Jones.

Gary Lockett was the no1 Middleweight for one of the ABC organisations......Hopkins was the #1 middle for the ibf. honestly remember, jones wasn't at his best either at that point. I do give Jones credit for the win. Who said anything otherwise? Do I think Hopkins was at the peak of his powers? No. Do I think he was the best Middleweight at that time? No. But obviously he's gone on to prove hes a great fighter and Jones deserves credit for a good win.
But lets put it into perspective.Comment

Yeah I suppose I could use your method and just make **** up. Like when you said Dariusz came to America, saw Jones and we never heard from him again............ nice fairy tale but funny considering he kept calling out Jones.
But whatever keeps you happy.Comment

Very well put. They would not let me give any green K, even though it's been forever since i gave you any. ****ers.I mean, sometimes I login, and really start to see some posters turning into borderline idiots...
You fight a guy for the middleweight title, and as soon as you leave, he becomes the MW champion for the next 10 years... in Bernard Hopkins.
You move UP in weight to fight James Toney for the SMW title who is 44-0 and on the p4p list... and the guy doesnt win a round.
You move up and practically clear out the LHW division. the DM issue, was not solely Roys fault... DM Came to the states to watch one of Roys fights, flew back and was never heard from again... and at the time, Roy was the man, had most the belts, you wanna be the best, you gata come to the states and fight, and DM didnt.
Then you move up and fight one of the HW champions... it doesnt matter who it is... the fact that roy came from 154 pounds as a fighter and then schooled a legitimate HW champion, is remarkable... like he says, nobody did it, in over a 100 years, so if its so easy...........
Then he moved back down lost all that muscle, and fought the NEW best LHW in Antonio Tarver...
And now hes fighting 45-0 Joe Calzaghe...
Theres a lot of fighters out there that wish they had those accolades.Comment
