I give credit where credit is due to Cal but in order to be an ATG you need a strong division and SMW has been weak for 15 years.

he is the best SMW of his era but no way all time.
It's not as if the super middleweight division has a lot of eras.

It's amazing how little people know about his competition. Two names? Wow. I guess six former world champions were just nobodies, right? Okay.

And was Hopkins at SMW then?

I voted yes on achievement.... Roy wasn't at the weight for long.

even if he beats jones what does it prove???

it proves he beat two top hall of fame fighters who are WELL past their prime...not top prime opponents...just ones past it.
As NEITHER of those fights are/will be at 168lbs then your point is meaningless...

Dude do you know these guys? JONES JR and TONEY? If they stay a while in SMW at their prime? Can you imagine that?

No, Sven Ottke is not the second best 168 pounder of all time. The only things that Calzaghe and Ottke have in common is that they are undefeated and European.

Ottke just sat at home with his corrupt judges and got gift after gift against above average fighters or scraping his way to decisions against ordinary fighters.

Calzaghe has unified the division and beaten two young, prime and hungry champions along the way. He has also compiled a resume with some other respectable names on it

My question was never answered ! What they all had in common is they all fought no one ! But yet they made a ton of defenses ! Ottke didn't he retire undeafeated at super middleweight ! but he is considered ! Yet Calslappy fought a slightly better competition ! Kessler who has he fought ? Lacy who ?
You said respectable names ! Lets hear them ? Eubank ! Please another past his prime fighter ! While during most of his career he was a Warren protected fighter carefully matched ! To me you showed the old double standard ! Your going by title defense and record ! So why not Ottke ? Didn't he retire undefeated and had alot of title defenses ! As for your remark about Virgil samething he had something like 15 defense in like 2 different reigns ! Would you consider him one of the greatest ?

The point is yes this is a weak division so we have to bend a little ! Most fighters are ranked on their skill and who they fought during there primes and some were good at multiple weight classes ! Toney made I believe 6 defenses at SMW so that right there is enough ! A 168 Toney beats a 168 Calslappy !
Nigel Benn made 10 defenses at SMW I think he would've beat Calslappy during Benns prime there ! Another point Hopkins has the most middleweight defenses is he the best middleweight ? No ! of course Robinson is the one universally known to hold the top spot ! I mean if your gonna rank Calslappy on his accomplishments at 168 ! You might as well put Ottke second ! He also had a ton of defenses and he retired undefeated !

Joe Calzaghe is without doubt the best SMW ever!
                    This cannot be denied.
His accomlishment's at SuperMiddle Weight are rivaled by no one.
He's the only fighter to become Undisputed SMW champ and no one has ever dominated the division for such a long time like Calzaghe.
