enough with all this Joe C ****

I think he was serious. I guess you could make the case since Hagler never fought anyone as big as Calzaghe (although he fought several people taller than Joe) but having watched their fights and observed their styles, I don't think Calzaghe has much of a chance against Marvelous Marvin.
Archie Moore regularly knocked out top heavyweights and hall of famers.
Robinson shut out LHW champion and hall of famer Joey Maxim for 13 rounds until retiring in his corner due to extreme exhaustion.
I can't see Joe beating these two either.Last edited by TheGreatA; 10-26-2008, 09:27 AM.Comment

I think alot of people dont like Calzaghe because of his style.
But no one beats him easily.
Calzaghe is a very fast, very awkward, very clever fighter. His biggest problem is his defence.
His size would be an advantage over most of them. And he gives them all a tough fight.
At top level things arent black and white. No one is a moro because they picked Joe over Hopkins, because styles make fights.Comment

No doubt, anyone who thinks Calzaghe beats Hagler, Robinson or Archie needs to seriously reevaluate their opinion.I think he was serious. Against Hagler or Moore, my money is definitely on those two. Archie routinely KO'd light heavies and also beat a few heavyweight contenders, in addition to putting Rocky on his ass, so methinks he'd nail Joe. Hagler might be trickier due to Calzaghe being slightly bigger, but my head still says Marv.
Robinson is a different case, though, and sacrilege rules. Remember Ray started his career at lightweight and was at his peak at welter, so Joe would enter the fight with a substantial size advantage. Ray was more beatable and middle and above, which is where most of his losses are, and in Ray's era Joe would have been a light-heavy.
True he was leading against Maxim when he had to retire through heat exhaustion, but he never took on a top light-heavy again. I'll say the same as I did on the Leonard v Calzaghe fantasy fight discussion. Ray may find himself fighting a guy who's just too big and strong for him. Obviously they're on different planets in the p4p stakes, but in reality Joe has a good chance.Last edited by Kid McCoy; 10-26-2008, 10:45 AM.Comment
