Some places do this kind of thing from time to time, its called "closed cirquit". I remember going to the Providence civic center to see Vinny Pazienza fight. Once his fight was over they showed Tyson-Spinks live on the jumbo screen. It was pretty cool. You don't hear about it happening so much with PPV now. I also went to an invatation only catered event at Foxwoods casino where they showed the DeLaHoya-Trinidad fight on a huge movie theatre screen. That was very cool. The food and booze were flowing with just a couple hundred people. That was a good time.
I have an interesting concept and want YOUR opinion

this is what im thinking...
of course the specifics would have to be handled but simply as a concept it seems like a great idea.
its a good halfway point between watching it live and having the comforts of home.Comment

I like the concept, Im just not sure how feasable it would be considering how few and far between the great fights are that grab the attention of the general public, and not just us hardcore fans. There are a lot more costs to consider than just the price of the fight.
On a side note..........a few years back I went to a wedding in Jersey city. The hotel we stayed in had a bar with a tv that was like 10 feet high by 25 feet wide (those aren't exact dimensions) and was crystal clear no matter how close you sat to it. We were watching football the afternoon after the reception and it was intense. Like you were actually on the field. I've alway wondered if that place showed fights and how cool it would be to see a fight like that. Probably the next best thing after being there live, but with replay.Comment

WOW - Simple yet Brilliant! I LOVE the idea!!!THIS IS BOXING RELATED...so keep reading...
I went to the movies last night...As i was watching the movie an interesting idea hit me...
What do we all love here? boxing.
Well i was thinking how cool it would be to watch ppv's at the movies (or a similar venue).
Imagine sitting in a big movie theater...with a HUGE screen...tons of people in there with you...loud surround sound...and it being a ppv fight?
i think its a good idea in theory...they would charge everyone less than the standard $50 you pay at home due to the fact there would be so many people they could charge everyone $10-$15 and its a cross between being at home...and being there live...
just an idea...might be a ****** one...let me know your thoughts.
vote in the poll.
thanks.

exactly...it couldnt be for every fight on HBO and SHO or every PPV but for those major fights that come around once or twice a year...I like the concept, Im just not sure how feasable it would be considering how few and far between the great fights are that grab the attention of the general public, and not just us hardcore fans. There are a lot more costs to consider than just the price of the fight.

something like Cotto v. margarito or Mayweather v. De La Hoya...those would have been two huge fights that could have easily be acceptable to be shown in a setting like that...
Pacquiao v. De la hoya in december would be a fight worthy of a theater showing...
i think if they do it once or twice a year for the biggest fights they will get a great turnout in my opinion...
if they were to broadcast EVERY hbo and SHO fight then it wouldnt work and major money would be lost...but to show just the really big fights it would probably be extremely profitable...the theaters would be eager to broadcast such fights due to the fact it makes the major money considering all the promos of movies in theaters and movies soon to be in theaters...selling of food/drinks, plus all the people that turn out to see the fight.
it would be a great thing.Comment

this is not an original idea, although it may seem like one since you have never heard of this. this has happened before for big fights. for example, the first ali-frazier fight was broadcast on a big screen at the spectrum in philadelphia so that the fighting city could watch with pride as smoking joe beat 'the greatest'. a lot of people, especially those from philly, couldnt afford to go to the real thing at the garden....Comment

It's a good idea if you don't have a bunch of out on control blacks where you live.
We have a huge bar here that tried doing closed circuit showings and had to shut down after the tinidad/RJJ fights because the brothers would start fights everytime and would never tip the waitstaff.Comment
