Although I'm a massive fan of Naz, I'm inclined to agree with IMDAZED.

Hamed was exceptionally talented, but he's more of a 'what could've been?' than anything else. Not because he didn't have a good career, but because it wasn't anywhere near as good as some of us were hoping it would be.

both gatti and hamed don't deserve to be in the HOF... maybe in another 20 years or so.

And since when do YOU know what the criteria for the HOF is? And since when do you know that he qualifies for it?

I've sat through pages and pages and I've yet to see anyone tell me these guys who Hamed beat that warrants HOF mention. All I hear is how many titles he won - most of them paper. Is that what qualifies for the Hall, because a couple guys sneaked in that way? We should sneak Hamed in too? Or is for popularity? If yes to either then I'm all for it too.
Of course people cared about the featherweights, but only those inside the boxing loop, the casual fan didnt really care all that much before him. He bought the big paydays and marquee events for the lower weights. he displayed an exceptional talent and KO power something seldom seen before for someone his size.

When people get into the HOF for defending one belt, at least Naz went and beat other champions, maybe they werent on the level of MAB, Morales etc.

In a perfect world the HOF would only be reserved for only the best of the best, but it seems the HOF goes to those who showed oustanding ability or an outstanding contribution to the sport or won a belt and defended it a few times. and ultimately it decides who is remembered in the future (of course harcore boxing fans remember everyone). Naz had a huge impact on the sport love him or hate him and deserves to be remembered for that. boxing needs the ****y types as much as the humble warriors

          Am I cool?

I really should get my paperwork together for the BWAA, I procrastinated on it because I was moving around so much.

Essentially you're saying he should get in because he was popular.

When people get into the HOF for defending one belt, at least Naz went and beat other champions, maybe they werent on the level of MAB, Morales etc.
So who were these fighters who Naz beat that warrant the HOF? And is you're argument that Hamed should get in because other people who didn't deserve to got in? Great argument.

I dont know why you're getting all antsy.

Anyway, he wasnt that popular, most people wanted him beat up badly. The fact is he beat everyone except MAB, Morales, and Mayweather. Mayweather shouldnt really be in the discussion because he was way too young to be in the mixer when Naz was fighting. He was a champion who beat other champions to become the man in the division and he was that man for a long time. That warrants HOF status, add in to the fact the impact he had outside thr ring only adds to that. People like MAB and Barrera were a step up and go to ATG status.

              the way I understand accolades

ATG is reserved for those who were at the absolute peak of their craft, only a handful from each division qualify for this. Naz doesnt qualify for this

HOF is for those who showed oustanding talent in becoming champions in their divisions and had a huge impact. Naz qualifies for this.

Besides that of course he should get in in light of the fact others snuck in. If they deserve to Naz does because he bought a lot to the sport. If the HOF was reserved for those who qualify for ATG then he wouldnt get in.

Yeah, you're cool Ryan. There are plenty of boxing writers that I do like. My comment really could apply to all sportswriters. Some of them are so full of themselves it is nauseating. To me, the boxing HOF is an embarrassment. How can Danny Lopez not even be on the ballot?

I dont know why you're getting all antsy.
I'm waiting for you to offer a reason other than "He was real popular" or "well some people who didn't deserve it got in."

Anyway, he wasnt that popular, most people wanted him beat up badly.
That doesn't mean he wasn't popular.

The fact is he beat everyone except MAB, Morales, and Mayweather.
Oh yeah? Who's everyone? The fact is he barely fought anyone we wanted him to fight and when he did, he lost.

Mayweather shouldnt really be in the discussion because he was way too young to be in the mixer when Naz was fighting.
Don't make me laugh. Mayweather was already #2 pound for pound at the time. He called out Hamed right after Corrales to which Larry Merchant said, "Come on, Floyd, you know he's NEVER going to fight you."

He was a champion who beat other champions to become the man in the division and he was that man for a long time.
Translation: I can't name any names! Come on, stop telling me about belts. I could use that same argument to say William Joppy was the man.

That warrants HOF status, add in to the fact the impact he had outside thr ring only adds to that. People like MAB and Barrera were a step up and go to ATG status.
                  Nice try.

Hamed was too small to fight Floyd. They were in different divisions.

Hamed was feather, Floyd was super feather. Floyd suggested 128.
