There are other boxers who should get in first.

i agree.............and most have never even stepped in the squared circle before, i wish most of them knew the grind it takes to be a boxer, let alone a professional one with the accomplishments of Nassem
Im not nuthuggin in any way, shape or form but Hamed deserves to be in 1st ballot IMOComment

It's hard to say he was the man as there were many great fighters all around him. Barrera, Morales, Mayweather, etc. And on a lesser scale, McKinney, Jones and more.I probably didnt explain myself properly, apologies.
It doesnt change that he was the man in that division for a long time, and beat all the other titleholders.
my point is that people go into the HOF for less, and when people say that fighters like Gatti (whilst entertaining) go in there for what they bought to the sport. A lot of people will not remember (because of their ages, not their fault) that the lower divisions were a completely different place before Naz came along.
In hindsight he may not have been THE greatest during his period, but he also bought a whole lot to the sport. So IMO either way he deserves his place. i have no doubt he'll be there eventually.
Plus, he did avoid some solid mandatories even though he never missed one for the WBO. It's the reason he kept dropping belts right after picking them up.Comment

You're right Larry. If he was a New York fighter he'd make it without any problem. His ring achievements speak for itself and I haven't read one good reason why he shouldn't be in. The voter's bias in these things is sickening.Comment

In hindsight maybe he wasnt the greatest, but at the time he was the man to beat, the big draw, of course MAB, Morales, Mayweather have gone on to do more, but he was the big guy in that class for a long time. People have gone in the HOF for less and lets face it its not bad to have boxers of them three's calibre as your only superiors. In another period it may not have been as stacked talentwise and Naz may have been a candidate for ATG in the lower divisions. It's hard to say he was the man as there were many great fighters all around him. Barrera, Morales, Mayweather, etc. And on a lesser scale, McKinney, Jones and more.

I'm not for one mineute saying he is an ATG, but IMO he is definitelt HOF material, fighters go in to the HOF half as much as what Naz achieved and what he bought to the sport.Comment

Yes, he was the big guy because he brought in the most money. Is that why he should go to the Hall?In hindsight maybe he wasnt the greatest, but at the time he was the man to beat, the big draw, of course MAB, Morales, Mayweather have gone on to do more, but he was the big guy in that class for a long time. Yes, people have gotten in for less undeservedly. Is that why he should go to the Hall?
I'm not a fan of claiming someone is great because they picked up belts. That means little in today's sport. As I said yesterday, William Joppy is multi-time champ, doesn't mean he should get in. It's about who you beat and when you beat them. Ultimately, Hamed falls short.Last edited by IMDAZED; 10-24-2008, 10:13 AM.Comment
