Cotto loss was embarrassing not to him but to his country and his family.
    I like this.

Really you can spin it however you want but you dont quit. Pavlik, by probably the 8th round knew he didnt have a chance. He could have quit, or he could have had his corner stop it. It would have been accepted too, his corner throws in the towel. "We just didnt want him to take anymore, he was too young and unexperienced for this. We made a big mistake"

Hopkins was putting the pressure on Pavlik, he didnt take a knee, he didnt turn away and quit.

Cotto was winning, all he had to do was finish the fight. You cant really compare Cotto and Peter to Pavlik.

I agree Cotto probably took more punishment but Pavli flat out got embarassed. He got schooled by B Hop and never was in the fight at all.

Cotto's loss was more brutal but he put up a much better fight than Pavlik did.

Pavlik didn't even win a round.

They were both in a bad fashion, considering their elite status (especially Cotto's who was in the top 5 p4p).

Pavlik took a sound beating for 12 rounds (and was only given AT MOST 2 rounds by the last judge, if I'm not mistaken). To top that off, it wasn't like one of those one-sided beatings where he's ONLY getting classed (Winky-Tito), but Pavlik at a few points was on the point of getting knocked down. That Hopkins flurry/showboating in Round 7 made Pavlik take TREMENDOUS punishment (it's in Precision's sig). He was never competitive in the fight at all. There were rare moments where Pavlik might've landed a punch here and there, but Hopkins was in control the entire time. If you still haven't seen the fight, consider that they placed Hopkins in the 3rd spot on the p4p rankings (I know it's all subjective, but still), this gives you an idea of how an impressive a performance it was that he put on Pavlik.

Cotto fought his ass off in his bout with Margarito. He lost by TKO, he took a knee and justifiably quit in the 11th. Prior to that, he was competitive throughout the fight. You can't tell me that you thought Margarito would sustain some of those shots with the way Cotto was landing in them in the first rounds. Those shots were brutal!

The second round: The grazing 4 punch combination he landed and then slipped 2 wide punches, the clean right uppercut Cotto landed on the chin that raised Margarito up slightly off his feet, the wide lunging left hook that hit Margarito at the end of the round...Margarito won that round on all of the judges' scorecard, but he was getting hit with a lot meaningful punches on the chin.

Pavlik's loss was worse. It was remarkable to see B-Hop handling a young, undefeated, power-punching pound-for-pound fighter, and did everything short of knock him out. Had he knocked him out, there would be no question as to who's loss was worse. Pavlik would probably be a ruined fighter had that happened, it would've drove his mind crazy. He proved how tough he was, but he DID almost get knocked down a few times and never had a good moment in the fight.

Unless you're like Viva, you have to respect Cotto for putting up a competitive (and therefore more entertaining fight), which makes his loss not that bad. The bad thing that can come out of this is him being a shot fighter, but it doesn't seem like that's gonna' happen. It's not like an immature Vargas who complained, made excuses when he fought and everything. After his fight with Margarito, Cotto was asked whether conditioning had to do with his loss, to which he responded: "I'm not going to discredit Antonio's win, I take nothing away from him, he's a tremendous fighter and he executed his game plan perfectly."

            But where was I?

Pavlik's was worse, but I can understand a different point of view.

No, he wasn't winning the fight. If you would've caught the HBO replay of the fight the week after (before Judah/Clottey), you would've seen the judges' scorecard round-by-round. Coming into the 11th, Margarito was up on two of the judges' scorecard, one had it a draw. The two knockdowns just sealed the deal that it would be impossible to win the fight. Unless Cotto landed a miracle shot out of the blue, no way it was happening...
