What pisses me off about it is that Hopkins was never bothered by a single punch Joe threw, and manages to tag Joe HARD several times in the fight. The fact that Joe wins a decision for throwing a thousand slappy punches and Hopkins losses a decision for picking his spots and being less active is really annoying.
That said, judges see activity, they really dont pay enough attention to the effectivity of punching. Both guys knew that, and Joe uses it to his advantage.
You are still completely missing the point: Boxing is judged by ROUNDS not by individual punches! Hopkins only managed to put decent punches together in a few rounds (two clearly, two or three barely) so Joe won more rounds. If fights were decided by highlight reels then every single fighter has won every single fight they ever fought!

You know whats so funny about the way Calzaghe slaps, everyone swears he has no power behind those punches. Yet, he always ends up with someone against the ropes like kessler was against the ropes at one time during there fight and hopkins was too. And Lacy was also against the ropes, if I remember correctly, I think lacy was fighting off the ropes a couple of times. Thats one hard slapper people are backing away from. lol.

R.i.p willie pep but joe calzaghe just put you to shame ......this guy didnt
just win one round without landing punches this guy won an entire fight!!!!
Listen. Why do you or anyone else hate Calzaghe? You don't seem to understand the most basic things about boxing. There was another guy earlier posting how he hates Taylor and Calzaghe because "they robbed Hopkins".

Basically, there are judges. They determine the outcome.

Don't you think you should take it up with them? It's not the fighter's you should be shouting at, it's the ones on the damn score cards.

Pretty simple when you stop having a tantrum and think about it for a second.

Oh no, I completely agree with you, I understand why the judges gave Joe that fight. I was just saying that its very frustrating to see somebody win that way, thats all.

            Indeed.

And the Johnson gif in your avatar looks like a slap, yet he knocks Chad back and hurts him.

            Yours sincerely,

My boy Hopkins was also gassing out in the later rounds against Pavlik, yet Hopkins looked like a young fighter against Pavlik in the later rounds... I wonder why...

Calzaghe and Hopkins are two greats, don't know why people have to hate on either of them.

From what I've seen, most of all it's nationality or race related.

I love 'em both and I wish people would shut the f**k up, it's boring now.

The counterpoint is of course that Hopkins has been relying on cheating, hugging and dirty tricks in his fights for years too. It may have been frustrating to see Calzaghe win that way but wasn't it frustrating to see Hopkins beat Winky with his favourite combination, a headbutt to the right eye followed by a headbutt to the left eye?

                    Very good points raised.

No one really has an answer for that, I bet.

Yeah sure, it's not a robbery.

but it was a gift for this Joe Slapzaghe the overrated, overhype fighter.
