    My thoughts on Pavlik tonight

Ok like Ive said before on this board I've known Kelly for years. And right now I can tell you that i'm stunned and confused on what happend in that ring tonight. For starters I have no idea why Kelly wasn't throwing punches, he usually throws between 70 and 100 punches per round. Is Hopkins that good on defence that he didnt feel comfortable throwing a clean shot? Maybe... Like I said i have no idea. I noticed something wasn't right a minute into the first round, and things never got better.

Youngstown Ohio is behind Kelly now more than ever. Mark my words, we will stay behind our champ. He had an off night bottom line. It happens to every professional athlete once in a while. I've seen Michael Jordan and Lebron James have off nights. Why should boxing be different? Things didn't click tonight. No excuses tho Hopkins proved he is a legend once again tonight and Youngstown Ohio respects him. Im out! GO TEAM PAVLIK!

I think Pavlik underestimated him and his corner had no plan. Hopkins never stood still which is why Pavlik couldn't land.

Hopkins is that good on defense, he neutralized Pavlik's main assests which are his jab, right hand and workrate. Pavlik came out cautious, he wanted to see what Hopkins had and Hopkins showed him he had quite a lot left, everytime Pavlik tried to get something going, whether it was the jab, the right hand etc. Hopkins had a counter for it, it went to the point of Pavlik getting very cautious about Hopkins' counters because he got stunned or hurt a few times in the fight from counter shots.

Hopkins surprised everyone, including Pavlik and his team, with how much he had left, his speed was also very surprising for a 43 year old man.

I think the fight being at 170 affected Pavlik but it's hard to say if that's the case or if it was because Hopkins was just so good he made Pavlik look sloppy.

Yea that "something wasn't right" was hopkins countering the living **** out of him and stunning/wobbling him as early as the 2nd round. Please stop trying to make excuses there was nothing "wrong" with Pavlik other than the fact that he was facing a living legend that's light years beyond him in skill level

everything you said was on point
I thought Team Pavlik was a bit over-confident......I just hope they take this slice of humbling pie well because Kelly is STILL the man at 160.

I completely agree man. Pavlik is my boy and I just couldn't understand what was going on, but when you break it down, your post is about as accurate as it comes. Sad night for us here in Y-Town but hey, we'll be back at MW. All props to Hop.

Inexperience plain and simple. Hopkins showed something Team Pavlik wasn't expecting and neither Pavlik nor his corner had a plan to adjust. Right from the bell Hopkins surprised them and put them off balance for the remainder of the fight.
