You had to bump it up coz people ignore BULL****. There should be an option for it did not, as he was outclassed. Of course Hopkins would find it hard to get to 160lbs. Even if he did I still think he beats Pavlik. Thing is he did not and Pavlik moved up, but was not out muscled! He got outboxed you spastic. Funny how crackers always look for pathetic excuses instead of dealing wi the TRUTH.

The weight wasn't an issue. People overrate the weight issue with fighers way too much.

In fact, fighting at 170 helps him as he himself would tell you. Less draining in training and more practice in the gym. It's not like he is a 5'10 middleweight who walks around at 165 in between fights.

He is a 6'2/6'3, huge middleweight and is at that stage where is about to outgrow that division. His frame is barely making 160 imo.

This was pure style mismatch. He was doing alot of strength and conditioning training......lifting big ass tires and hitting the sledge hammer unstead of coming up with a strategy and preparing for what Hopkins has to offer stylistically.

They just assumed that a old ass Hopkins was gonna show up and give the fight to them, ignoring that Hopkins has been taking care of himself for more then a decade and is still a healthy guy. They had no plan for him.

        THAT WAS HIS BIGGEST PROBLEM.

Hopkins is good enough to make his opponents look like completely different boxers. It had nothing to do with the weight and everything to do with Pavlik's inherent deficiencies. Hopkins is a legend in the sport and at 160 lbs. he still would've neutralized Pavlik's right, he still would've kept Pavlik off balance, he still would've given Pavlik angles, and he still would've won the fight.

This was a classic style clash--and Bernards superior technique won the fight, plain and basic common sense.

I'm not saying it's the whole reason, but from the opening bell something just looked extremely wrong. It wasn't what Hopkins did, although it maybe had an effect on Pavlik as time went on, but from the get go Pavlik just looked lethargic and slow. Slower than he'd ever been, unable to throw his usual array of punches. He wasn't Kelly Pavlik. He looked out of shape, and out of energy. Am I the only one thinking along these lines?
The weight advantage was completely wiped out by the age advantage.

Kelly is 26 fighting a 44 year old guy.

            NO EXCUSES

If anything Hopkins was the with the tougher road to hoe.

Kelly wasn't allowed to get set and was countered silly trying to load up.

the weight only mattered in the sense that the guy he was facing isn't gonna feel his punches the way a MW would.. (imagine pavlik vs sturm.. size power reach etc)
pavlik could have come in at 160 and he would still have been the physically stronger fighter...
i believe he was comfortable with the weight... just outclassed by the opponent

In the Future people will say Kelly was a 'blown up middleweight'

just like they did with Tito and Oscar calling them 'blown up welters'

I dont think it had anything to do with it. I am a huge Pavlik fan, and picked him to win. But Hopkins just handed him his ass because he was better.

                      1) Pavlik said before the Taylor rematch that the extra weight will help him more than Taylor b/c he doesn't have to cut as much.

                      2) Pavlik weighs at LEAST 170(most likely more) on fight night. The only difference is that he didn't have to go through dehydration/rehydration which should have HELPED his stamina tonight.
Not only that, if you look at Boxrec, you will see that Pavlik has fought at or near that weight before...several times. And that was years ago. No way you tell me that Kel hasn't grown in the past four years.

It isn't the weight. It is the opponent. Kel is a great white hype that many bought into.
