  • How many people here think Pavlik's jump in weight SEVERELY affected his chances?

Do you think that he just wasn't ready to fight at this weight, especially considering the caliber of opponent he was making his 170 debut against? I'm not saying it's the whole reason, but from the opening bell something just looked extremely wrong. It wasn't what Hopkins did, although it maybe had an effect on Pavlik as time went on, but from the get go Pavlik just looked lethargic and slow. Slower than he'd ever been, unable to throw his usual array of punches. He wasn't Kelly Pavlik. He looked out of shape, and out of energy. Am I the only one thinking along these lines?

A significant part of the fight changed because of weight.

A little, but it was but a small part of a lot of problems Pavlik had

The fight would have looked the same way if these two fought at 160, today.

there was something wrong, I mean I'm not saying he would've beat Hopkins since Hopkins looked great tonight, but Pavlik was off. I doubt it was the weight, but it could be.

I didn't expect it affect him that much but it looked like it affected him quite a bit, he looked sloppy and slower than he did at middleweight or even at 164 against Taylor.

Not really. Pavlik could barely land on Bernard. Bernard boxed and moved and gave him an entertaining boxing lesson all night. Pavlik never fought someone who didn't stand right in front of him and it showed.

That ain't no excuse. All it means is that Pavlik didn't have to hop in the sauna. He just got bodied. And its not like Hopkins cuts from 190 or anything.

it played a part but Hopkins was too good.

                It's a factor.

But I don't think any version of Kelly beats any version of Hopkins.

The weight was a disadvantage to him but really it was Hopkins style that caused him all the problems.
