How many people here think Pavlik's jump in weight SEVERELY affected his chances?

I think the weight partially affected him and Hopkins also affected him. Probably Hopkins affected him the most. Hopkins even when he loses makes guys look bad. He's just a slick cagey fighter and he has great defense and keeps his chin tucked and rolls with his shoulder. There is no shame in losing to a Legend because nobody has clearly beat hopkins since Roy Jones Jr and that was about 14 years ago.

[QUOTE=The_Executioner;4205691]Not really. Pavlik could barely land on Bernard. Bernard boxed and moved and gave him an entertaining boxing lesson all night. Pavlik never fought someone who didn't stand right in front of him and it showed.[/QUOTE

you think this fight looks these same at 165, if it was fought today? I don't see that being possible at all. 160 I think Kelly would win a UD. Present day, of course.

not really the weight... The problem was the style and skills of the opponent which makes him "The Ghost HAND"....

small role, but he came up against much bigger problems than that tonight.

Of course it affected Pavlik, he looked slow and sluggish all night. If Hopkins had won like 7 or 8 rounds, I'd say Pavlik would probably win at 160. But that was not the case, not at all. Bernard has his number, owns him as it were, and Pavlik would probably need to wait 5 years before trying a rematch to have a realistic chance.

I saw this fight going to Hopkins, but not this decisive.

I havent seen much of Pavlik but yeah he didnt look the same, I mean Hopkins isnt that much faster than Pavlik, yet it looked like Mayweather V. Baldomire.

I remember watching Pavlik take down Taylor at 159, then the rematch at 164 Pavlik looked noticably slower and his shots seemed less effective. This was actually the major reason that made me go with Hopkins, because I knew a additional 6lbs would be devasting for him, especially when hes facing a slick counter puncher.

He had no power, and was slow. Pavlik needs to stay at 160, no exceptions, he got greedy and paid the price.

No Winky's jump in weight severely affected his chances. This was a case of a fighter getting schooled. Point blank.

it was MORE than the weight........people have even said that a primed Hopkins beats 1D Pavlik easily. People judged Hopkins stamina after the pressure that Calz put him under. Calz is faster and more variable with his offense.....Pavlik is predictable, Calz kept B-Hop off balance all night with his unconventional style.....but Pavlik is too conventional not to be able to pick up on what he's tryin' to do, plus he's NEVER fought a fighter with B-Hop's ring IQ. it was more than the weight.
