My Uncles were HUGE boxing fans and so was my Dad, I apparently watched Frank Bruno on BBC from a very young age, I probably watched him win the ABA's on BBC and many of his early fights but can't really remember anything vividly. I then saw many fights at the Royal Albert Hall when I was a kid with my Uncle but I wasn't all that interested. The first time I Really became interested in boxing was watching Mike Tyson coming through the ranks on Grandstand, then Tyson beat Berbick on ITV and I taped the rest of his fights right upto Bruno 89, I watched Tyson's fights in his prime over and over again and became obsessed. I also took a fancy to Nigel Benn coming through the ranks on ITV, and then fell in love with Chris Eubank after seeing him fight Anthony Logan on a Benn undercard where he stole the show. The first big British fight I saw live on TV was Tyson-Bruno 1, then a couple of months later Benn-Watson was a huge and memorable event. Great stuff, I was definately hooked by 1990.
How did everyone become obsessed with boxing, share your stories.

1. watching James Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson. Even being a Tyson fan, the courage that Douglas displayed in that fight and the way the electricity built as the crowd realized that they might be about to see something historical was great. it was a magical moment to me to see such a huge underdog come out on top.
2. arturo gatti vs. mickey ward I.
up until this fight all i had really been exposed to as far as boxing went was heavyweight championship fights. i never had seen two guys with so much guts and it showed me the side of the sport that i have come to love.Comment

Originally posted by scapI just turned 26 and have been watching boxing for nearly two decades now. I used to go over to my uncles house who lived down the street at a very young age and watch/learn about the sweet science. My dad and uncle were huge fight fans and when they grew up they were best friends with a heavyweight contender named Boone Kirkman. Kirkman was semi successful fighting the likes of George Foreman, Jimmy Ellis...they worshiped Boone and still talk about him to this day, they always argue that Boone would have kicked ass in this era but after reviewing a lot of Boone tapes I have to diagree. So my dad and my uncle got me into this sport a long time ago and I fell in love with it, the very first fight I ever scored was Greg Haugen vs. Vinny Pazienza 1, I am from Seattle so Haugen was a big deal back when I was a little ****.
Anyways I would love to hear how all of you got to be so passionate about this sport, there is nothing I would rather do than watch a good prize fight!

Hey John,
Did you grow up in Renton? If so where-thats where I was born and raised...I have some of his fights and would love to share them with you but I dont have them n a format where I can emial them to you.
Are you still a fight fan and how the hell old are ya? Fans of Boone Kirkman dont come any younger then 50...not that it matters just flippin ya ****.
Boone beating Ali? Are you my dad?
I was just at a party for my uncle and Boone was there and I was drunk and the first thing I said to him was what was it like when Foreman bumrushed you and threw you down? My dad and my uncle were gonna **** when I said that-apparently it is something Boone still does not like to talk about-or so they said.
I was waisted and disrespectful-I wish I could have said something like, "great victory against Ellis or Machen" no I have to insult him.
I'll have to email you!Comment
