Dude, we're done here. Your bias is just nuts. Yes, Dawson is faster than Calzaghe. I can't even believe it's up for debate but hey, look who I'm talking to: When you start making comments like Calzaghe's never been "confused, apprehensive and not throwing enough" (I could've sworn that's what he looked like the first five rounds of his LAST FIGHT) then there's nothing more to say.

Even before Dawson fought Johnson and Tarver, i have been saying that he would be too much for Joe. A natural light heavyweight counter puncher with all of the skill and ability with power, would be too much for Joe, especially since he doesn't have enough power to back him off with. I see Dawson out boxing him to a unanimous decision.Comment

That's nothing to be ashamed of. He earned his stripes from that fight and it was the first time that he was pressured. Clearly he has picked up on his defensive and has also fought the better southpaws. Johnson is an orthodox volume puncher that pressures you for every minute of every round, that come in with the ability to slip and block punches at the same time, and that disrupted Chads foot movement. Calzaghe gives you more of a target, doesn't have a punch at this stage, is clearly the smaller man and gives you his opportunities by throwing wide looping shots and dropping his hands, and IMO that's the reason why he struggled against counter punchers like Reid and Hopkins that had the ability to exploit that. Some people thought Dawson struggled, looked confused and aprehensive against Johnson. You don't. As for proving one or the other you obviously can't really can you. But if you feel you have proof people were wrong and your right, be my guest. Essentially your saying this is your view, this is mine which is right. Prove yours. Erm, it's not something you can proves its a view of a performance, much the same as yours which you can't prove either. Doh.Comment

Terrific post mate, better backed up than anything else I've seen. Dawson certainly does seem to have improved a lot out of the Johnson match which is a great sign. I don't think Johnson pressured for every minute of every round though, he took his foot of the gas a few times and allowed Dawson to re-coup, and I'm not sure Joe would. Also you noted orthodox, Joe isn't so I think it'd confuse Dawson as much even though he has improved. Largest reason being he's still not that stubborn in the ring, he pays his opponents too much respect. That's nothing to be ashamed of. Calzaghe does throw some looping shots your right, and he would get caught more than Johnson/Tarver there which would cost a couple of rounds. Dawsons not more powerful than Hops or Kessler though, even if he was lucky to land a hard counter at most it would be a flash knock down, I can't see Dawson getting through a few of those or much volume without Calzaghe adapting and responding with aggression. One thing almost for sure, is neither guys getting knocked out.Comment

Good stuff. I do believe that both would confuse each other considering both are southpaws, however neither southpaw that Joe has fought was ranked, so I'm not sure how he would fair against someone with the hand speed and ability of Dawson.Terrific post mate, better backed up than anything else I've seen. I think that Dawson punches harder than Hopkins at light heavyweight and at least as hard as Kessler will at 175. The punches that he was hitting Tarver with sounded like lightning. Hopkins was never a huge puncher even at middleweight, it was just his well place shots at the right time mixed with his speed that had so much effect, and Dawson does that pretty well. I see Calzaghe playing the roll of the aggressor, and Dawson playing the part of the counter puncher at times. I think that his natural size and body punching would be a factor, and Chad has the stamina to keep up to Joe and offset his work rate.Calzaghe does throw some looping shots your right, and he would get caught more than Johnson/Tarver there which would cost a couple of rounds. Calzaghe has no power.
All he has is hand speed.
Dawson has that as well as average power, and youth on his side.
Dawson will win.Comment
