Dawson actually fights...and punches like a man.

It would be a good match between the true champion of the division (Calzaghe) and arguably best titleholder in the division (Dawson), but it will not happen anytime soon. Perhaps, if Calzaghe beats Jones, then the match will happen, but even then, I doubt it because more people have been clamoring for Calzaghe to fight middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik.

Dawson is too high risk/low reward for Calzaghe to go anywhere near.

That would be the problem. Joe doesn't have the fire power to make Chad think twice about coming in and Dawson is very effective and aggressive when he gets into that rhythm and knows that hes superior, similar to the way he did with Eric Harding and Ian Gardner (two slick southpaws actually). Judges like effective punches.

KrisSilver i think youve been pretty much spot on when talking about calzaghe, dawson and the match up betwen them and how it would play out.

gotta say maybe a 30 yr old dawson would be schooled enough to now how to deal with JC but otherwise no i cant see him winning. youre reight about joe backing up dawson dawson doesn't return fire when hes being hit, imo its another reason why alot of ppl including myself think he has got a suspect chin.

joe is still a few notches above dawson, but daaaayyymmmnn i wish joe had been born a few years later or earlier!!

if hed been 30/32 no hed be in his prime and could face dawson and pavlik to silence the doubters.

most important part of the fight would be the start of the fight and the first 3/4 rounds. both fighters would want to win the first few reounds as whoever these rounds go to then become the counter puncher.

if joe wins them then he can relax and start fighting off the back foot and play the role of counter puncher, he is more suited to this and wouldn't run the risk of leaving himself exposed or his balance getting the better of him and suffering a flash KD.

dawson as well would prefer it as he could time his shots and use his speed.

however you get the feeling that joe has more in his arsenal and even if he needs to he can fight from the front foot and use his aggression and windmilling style to back up dawson which seems to be easily done.

dawson makes two mistakes that would cost him against joe:
1) he covers up way too easy: against joe this is suicide and would allow him to rack up the pints with his flurries

2) stamina: against tarver and johnson he seme to take rounds off before finally asserting himselfa as someone said before joe forces you into fighting the fight at his pace, a pace that most of other fighters cant handle, dwson is clever but calz just wouldn't give him the time to think in the ring.

calzaghe would win and imo would win quite omfortably

what would be interesting is to see kessler and dawson. now that would be one helluva fight!!!!!

I could actually see joe stopping dawson. Not with brute force (Joe don't have that no more). But with Dawsons shaky chin, I can see him balling up under a Calzaghe flurry, causing a stoppage.
