The credit Jones should get for beating Hopkins is exactly what he did get, beating a young, talented, but quite unproven MW who was a credible threat to him to determine which of the two was the best and which deserved to be world champion. It is a good win, and Hopkins subsequent achievements showed just how hard beating him actually was.
As for Jones Calzaghe, yes, it is conceivable Jones would fight Calzaghe now when past his best and have avoided the likes of Benn, Eubank and Darius back then. Roy has a lot to gain and nothing to lose by fighting Calzaghe, whereas he would have had little to gain and a lot to lose in facing those guys. I am NOT saying he ducked them, merely pointing out that Roy's willingness to fight Calzaghe says little about his bravery and more about his position in boxing in 2008.
