This topic is insane, paranoid and slightly sad. The main reason I cheered when Khan got starched was because I had points riding on it.

Before you accuse people of racism or anti-islam wholesale you should try comparing that view with, as an example, reality and see if it measures up.

well, actually, if you were right and people did know about Khan..

the bookies would have lost a lot of money because all you geniuses knew he was gonna lose and would have been paid 16 times your bet.

Answer: he was 16/1 favourite. No one would put a bet like 1/16 on Roy jones against a leper let alone on someone fighting a previously undefeated puncher because the risk/reward ratio is far too low.

              point is this....

if everyone knew Khan was hype, which is what you are insinuating, plenty of people would have bet on Prescott to win 16 times their money and that would have driven the line down to something more reasonable.

that did not happen. khan opened and closed at 16-1 because none of the people with "boxing knowledge" apparently had a dollar to their name to bet on Prescott.

isn't that a little convenient that everyone with boxing knowledge is also broke?

Maybe I'm being a bit cynical here, but I doubt that too many British punters would have made that bet. The vast majority of them thought that Ricky Hatton had a half decent chance of defeating Mayweather, for Christ's sake!

Perhaps what you are saying is somewhat valid. I can't read people's minds but of course there are racists out there, and on this forum as well.

However, my ex-girlfriend was an Asian ****** and she hated Khan, despite not having watched boxing in her entire life. You ever read Eastern Eye and papers like that? He was in there quite a bit. There are a few things you can put it down to, and I think race, nationality, religion, hype, his talents, his flaws and maybe a few other things all played a part.

A lot of the Americans dislike a British prospect getting that much attention. And the Brits? Well, we love to build people up and then tear them down, a large part of UK journalism is founded upon that principle.

I don't know what odds were on prescott so I can't really say, but he hasn't had any televised fights in the UK so his odds are bound to be slightly lower because he could well have been ****, like the rest of Khans opponents.
If an unknown undefeated fighter goes anywhere overseas he is going to get lower odds because of the risk of not knowing if he's any good.

Edit: I meant higher odds not lower odds!

Why??? I heard that he had injured the guy on the pedestrian crossing(who subsequently died),but to actually hate him? I don't get that.It was amusing to see him exposed and the Warren money-express derailed, but I never had any particular dislike of him.So what are the rumours then- apart from the usual womanising and showing off of his wealth?
