james toney win MIGHT have meant a little something...

the rest was just him looking good over lesser competition. not to say they all ****** but, they werent the level he should have been competing at. the light heavyweight division was alot uglier then.

also i dont care what anyone says, a win over john ruiz doesnt mean ****.
    u dont know jack, son.

I can't see him beating Chad though, but his accomplishments at light heavy are still there. He was once pound for pound one of the best fighters in the sport and with wins over Jones, Griffin, Harding, Johnson, an Woods( who were all top 10 light heavyweights) convinces me that he could trouble anyone on his best day. His resume was very solid an he was very good in THAT era, but in Dawson he is going against something that is way above him. I actually talk to Chad on ******* Tuesday and he told me that Tarver weighs about 210 Lbs an is mainly focused on losing the weight as of now rather than getting into serious shape. He also told me that training camp is going great and that he will be at 110%.

There is no guarantee that Dawson will win. I am backing Dawson all day but this fight is really 50/50 and it would not be a huge upset if Tarver pulled it out. Also, name me 11 greater light heavyweights than Tarver. I'm not making him out to be an all time great or anything, but he is great at light heavy.

The fact that Toney came in out of shape was his fault and he paid the price for it. Just take a look at everything he accomplished after that loss. Becoming the universally recognized cruiser weight champion and also winning a heavyweight belt so clearly Toney was still a monster. Tarver is one of the best light heavyweights of any generation and Jones has a win over him as well( even though it was very controversial). Roy beat plenty of good to great fighters in their prime.

He has been wanting this fight for about two years now and hes always in great shape. The only thing that concerns me is his game plan. If he goes out there trying to knock Johnson out early the way he did with Johnson, then he could be in trouble because Tarver has some pop. If he boxes him the way he did Adamek, taking his time, going to the body effectively, keeping use of his jab ect, then i could see him stopping Tarver late from accumulation.

Wow, your are worse than me with Joe! To be honest I do rate Tarver more highly than a lot of people, he's been good in this era and therefore would be a competitive boxer in other ones too, I just think actually calling him one of the greatest is going a bit far.

If Dawson beats him it will be a fantastic win and will make him the most proven fighter at that weight and immediately install him as really the only 'live' opponent for Calzaghe other than Pavlik. Depending on what happens with Pavlik and Hopkins though, I might like to see a Dawson - Hopkins bout. We all know Cal v Chad will never happen anyway.

I'm kind of split on Tarver - Dawson, since as I've said I like Tarver, but I like Chad too. Its better for boxing if Dawson wins so I'll be rooting for him I think.

                      Except Calzaghe.

Pre-fight: "I injured my hand, I couldn't spar, I had trouble making weight and I'm not motivated."

Post fight: "I wasn't very impressed by my performance."

He's very strange for a boxer IMO.
