Did Roy Jones ever beat a fighter in their prime?

Ok, lets say Tony. That is 1 fighter in his entire career that was top 10 pfp who was in his prime at the time Roy faced him. Bit weak dont u think? Im not bashing Roy now. I actually like him, but facts are facts, and his resume is a bit weak for a fighter of his caliber.Comment

Roy is known more for being a multi-weight champ more than the fighters hes faced... hes obviously faced good fighters, but its starting out at 154 and going all the way to heavyweight and back down that make his resume strong....Ok, lets say Tony. I'm not denying that the strength of his resume is below the level of his skills. He still has a very solid resume, there are many good fighters and world champions on it. It also has to be considered that there were not a lot of fights available to Roy against genuine p4p guys.Ok, lets say Tony. Yeah, it is definately Roy's skills and accomplishments that will define his legacy as an ATG rather than the strength of his resume.Comment

I think that most agree that yes, Jones resume is actually quite weak, especially for someone of his ability. His best wins outside of Toney and Hopkins, which are both good are the likes of Montell Griffin, Eric Harding and an old Mike McCallum, plus his HW win over Ruiz. Any way you want to slice the cake, these are not great names and it requires a bit of creative thinking to believe they alone make Roy great. I persnally think that Jones resume is reasonable, but that he gets a lot of mileage out of his multi-division title wins, which is perfectly justifiable considering he won from MW to HW, which is pretty awesome.Ok, lets say Tony. I'm not sure that going back down again strengthened his resume exactly!Comment

Your views are a bit different then mine, but i respect that. I can care less of how many weight divisions a fighter has fought at. Anyone call pull a Mayweather and pick weak opponents/title holders in each division, then claim to be a multi-division champ. To me, its about the caliber of fighters you face, not how many weight divisions u can fight at. If a fighter competes at only 2 weight classes his entire career, but in the process, cleans them both out, i find that more impressive than a fighter who moves up 3-4-5 weight classes, yet fights mediocre competition along the way.Comment
