He just doesn't get enough credit because Pac was so brutal in their fights. But honestly, he is the complete package of skills and should be brought up anytime anyone says "Mexicans are only brawlers".

Of those, Dawson has the best chance, because he's young, fast, skilled and quick, but if he can struggle with Johnson, Calzaghe would give him kittens, he'd apply similar pressure only much faster and more skilfully. If tarver showed up to fight he might make it a good one too, his cagey style is not Calzaghe's favourite and he's much bigger than Joe, but in all likelihood would get outworked.

The rest of the names on there get beaten easily by Joe C.
In all fairness he didn't say would but can. I'd agree they all can beat him.

Pavlik to me has a good style for a close fun fight for the fans. Both have a high output, both more skilled then given credit for. A Pavlik that is a champion 34-0(30KOs), has a solid chance at winning. His jab and right in particular are weapons that Joe would have to game plan for. Also Pavlik has never been able to not hurt an opponent, take that into consideration. Pavlik seems to start slow and work hard, eventually breaking his opponent down. Pavlik has more counter punching ability then given credit for. His hard uppercuts give him the power to keep Cal off the inside, which sets you up with a cannon jab and a bomb right hand. Pavlik times opponents very well, his hand eye coordination is great for counter punching. He also likes to finish exchanges, he doesn't like to end a flurry without him getting the last one in. I'd say it gives him the advantage because of his power, it would look like he won the exchange either way.

He was caught with a perfect right hand counter, He took harder shots of Kessler and stood up. Hopkins caught him perfectly off balance.

Pavlik would beat him, and badly. Once he owns the 43 year old version of Hopkins in the up coming fight..people will see. Calzaghe has the most padded record of this generation.

If Palik-Calzaghe happens, I will bet you on that. I think Kelly is tailor made for Joe. I just hope Joe takes the fight.

A prime Roy Jones would be favored against prime Joe Calzaghe because he beats him on the fronts Calzaghe's strongest. Speed, reflexes, ring intelligence to name but a few. Calzaghe would need to get rougher then he'd like, but he is tough and would be competitive in speed with Roy for once. 65-35 in Roy's favor imo, roughly exactly opposite now but it's impossible to tell really.

A Hopkins post 40, with more stamina and punch output would quite likely beat Calzaghe for the opposite reasons. He's a complete style nitemare for Joes style, doesn't come forwards, very good defensively, a good counter puncher. But these skills he relied on and honed most post 40. He didn't have them to that extent when he was younger as he didn't quite have the same experience, ring intelligence or defence. at least to such ridiculously high extents. So go back in time and if anything Joe has a slightly easier time with Hops imo, because he's slightly more open and less awkward which were his best weapons.

Still these are two styles that either would, or could quite likely overcome Joe, but it all depends when you catch any of the fighters and the tactics, style they went in with.
