Sal Sanchez was a great fighter. But, he also struggled in many of his title defenses, having much more difficulty with those who did not come to him & play into his counterpunching hands. His biggest wins were against Lopez, a face-first slugger, & a Wilfredo Gomez who walked right into Sal. Dismiss the Nelson fight, because Nelson was 13-15 fight youngin' who took the fight on very short notice.
Sanchez struggled with Pat Ford, a man Sal's counterpart Eusebio Pedroza absolutely broke down & ruined. Castillo gave him a good scrap, as did Juan LaPorte (very green), but both gave many fighters a rough night. Sal struggled way more with Pat Cowdell & Rocky Garcia than someone held to such lofty standards should have.

Great fighter, whose too-early passing has raised his status to what I believe is mythical proportions.
Excellent post and I agree 100 percent.
