but i'd say top 30 ATG
That is absolutely not true. His early death has lead to him being overrated, & people get very angry when I point that out.

Sal Sanchez was a great fighter. But, he also struggled in many of his title defenses, having much more difficulty with those who did not come to him & play into his counterpunching hands. His biggest wins were against Lopez, a face-first slugger, & a Wilfredo Gomez who walked right into Sal. Dismiss the Nelson fight, because Nelson was 13-15 fight youngin' who took the fight on very short notice.
Sanchez struggled with Pat Ford, a man Sal's counterpart Eusebio Pedroza absolutely broke down & ruined. Castillo gave him a good scrap, as did Juan LaPorte (very green), but both gave many fighters a rough night. Sal struggled way more with Pat Cowdell & Rocky Garcia than someone held to such lofty standards should have.

Great fighter, whose too-early passing has raised his status to what I believe is mythical proportions.

Top 10? NO. Top 25? Nope. Had potential to become top 25, but career ended up tragically before accomplishing so.

imagine if mab retired right before pac, or if erik retired after beating pac. they would have been higher on the ATG list i believe than sal. or maybe they are already. his career is too short to be a top ATG.

No he's top 50, his life was cut off before he could really seal his legacy. I ranked Saddler and Pep above him at FW.

he's the greatest mexican fighter ever.period.chavez is overrated.chava would never get outboxed or outslugged.it was only his death that prevented him being elevated to a greater plateau of fighters.

I have to disagree. He had the potential to be the greatest Featherweight of all time, but since he was cut short, there are others with stronger claims. I would rank him a definite top 3 though.

Arguello reigned supreme in that division for a long time, and then moved on to prove himself more in more weight classes. Arguello has a clain to being an all time great. Sanchez can only really claim to be a dominant champion.

Sanchez was a great fighter who accomplished a lot in a short life. But there were fighter who accomplished much more thru out much longer careers and they just cant be kicked to the wayside because sal had the potential to be greater than them. When all is said and done there are to many fighters with more longevity and as great or greater accomplishments to give Sal the honor of a top 10 ranking. This is no slight on Sanchez, just my opinion.

I think most would rank Chavez the greatest Mexican fighter of all time, yet I've never seen a p4p top 10 list with him on it. I think it would be difficult defending Sals place there, but no JCC.
