Kelly Pavlik: "No Surprise if Roy Jones Beats Joe Calzaghe"

Recently he has said several times he still feels young, and if Kelly beats Hopkins, it steals some of Joes thunder.
If Pavlik beats Hopkins and Calzaghe beats RJJ, Calzaghe will be forced into a corner and have to fight, or look like a coward.

I hope Pav doesn't overlook Hopkins. He could still be dangerous.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his Legacy
For some (unknown) reason, people began discussing "Ole Fishmouth's legacy"...............I don't see any legacy, except that he retired unbeaten without one, single, top class win on his record.
Of his earlier fights, excluding Castillo 1, the less said abuot them the better. The only way to describe them is " taking money under false pretenses".
It is his last 4 fights which tell the tale-if any- of his "legacy" and not one of them was anything but a "yawnmaker".
4 fights ago he fought Zab Judah. Judah did very well for the first 4 rounds and then lost interest.
He then fought Carlos Baldomir, with 9 losses, and not much good, whose previous 2 fights had been wins againt a well washed up Arturo Gatti and an-again- disinterested Judah.
Then he fought Oscar DeLa Hoya, who fights only once a year, and is a long time past his best, whose NEXT fight, at 147 gives him a 50-50 chance against MANNY the Mighty Midget, who began boxing life at 106 lbs and has come up only a couple of monthe ago to LIGHTWEIGHT, that is 135 lbs.
His last fight was against Ricky Hatton, a goodish 140 lb champ, whose style was all wrong to beat Mayweather, who had no difficulty in avoiding his rushes and whose KO was clearly helped along by Hatton running full tilt into the ringpost, which, I believe, was what KO'd him. But he was well beaten, although it took Mayweather a loooong 10 rounds.
Not one of the above deserve to or will go into the Hall of Fame, except Oscar, maybe, not for his boxing ability, but for the amount of money he draws for his fights.
This is Mayweather's true legacy..................

I don't think any of this makes Calzaghe a coward. Perhaps Enzo, but not Joe. He's in the twilight of his career. He doesn't have the same zip on his punches that he had 4-5 years ago, so he just wants to make some good money before calling it quits. Whether America loves him for it or not means absolutely nothing to him. He's still got the U.K.
Now is not the time for him to be taking on the youngest and strongest bulls in the rodeo. Cal's gift was speed and punch output; the first things to go when a fighter ages. His opponent is Jones, a man who's gifts were much the same. It's low-risk for both men, and it's a "well, it's better to do it now than never" scenario for them, as they should have gone at it years ago.
His choice to not fight Pavlik does not MAKE him a coward. We don't know what's going through his head. We don't know his plan. We don't know what his family and friends are telling him. We don't know how much desire and ambition he has left in the tank. He doesn't owe us anything. He's getting old. Let him do what he wants. The man is past his prime, which increases the risk factor. That doesn't mean he's afraid, just concerned about his own health. He can't do some of the things he used to. If he does fight Pavlik, we'll probably see that when he gets hit too often. What happens then? Instead of fairly considering what could have happened were Joe still in his prime, everyone will talk about "exposed", "overrated", etc.
Now, I am well aware that the fact that Hopkins is still fighting at 43 will come up as a counter-argument, especially since he is fighting Pavlik. He's a completely different fighter, however. He relies on slick defense and creating a sloppy contest. It's the same reason why the Detroit Pistons are competitive in the NBA every year, despite having older players, or why Holmes and Foreman had longer careers than Ali (and would have, even without the illness): they don't rely on speed and agility to get the job done.
As a side note: What is everyone going to say if Calzaghe does agree to fight Pavlik? I'd love to go back through the 100's of pages of posts over the past few months and re-post them just to make dumb people eat their words. Keep in mind, I am a man who would root for Kelly to KO Joe from the opening bell.
