Its kind of hard to have a lack of effort in the ring with his KO ratio though.

more like a lack of effort at welterweight when he had the chance to elevate himself to even greater heights.

Really? To me he will always be my 130 pound measuring stick and it will be very hard for anyone to match up with him at that weight in my eyes anyways. From there everything else he did was gravy for his all time great status (if you are one of the top fighters ever in a weightclass you are an ATG to me). Sure the guys you listed and many others are above him but that does not make him any less great in his own era.

Could he have done more at 140, 147 and possibly even 135 but when you add it all up I think it works out.

at 135 i dont agree, he basically fought most of what was good, freitas, casamayor and barrios didint come until really after he left the division.

That is why i said possibly 135, i do not really hold 140 against either because that division was messed up. He did only have 4 fights at 135 though I think he could have done a little more work there, but it is kind of nit picking.

He only fought 3 guys at that weight and didn't unify at all.

I hope so, but I'm not sure.

Before he retired, he had the biggest money fight possible (de la Hoya) and there was a firmly established top challenger (Cotto).

But de la Hoya will be retired, and there is no top guy because the best 3/4 guys have all suffered losses in the last year or two.

I suppose there is a small chance of him fighting Pacquiao, but I can't see it happening and it would be strongly criticised unless Mayweather was going down in weight rather than Pac coming up.
