I just feel he did many things wrong early in his career, then really started to correct them, only to sell himself short once again.

The Pavlik fight is the one all fans wanted. The Pavlik fans could not see Joe beating their man and the Joe fans could not see Pavlik beating Joe.
Maybe, but you can't turn back the hands of time though can you? Anyway, we fluctuate back and forth from day to day on here as one bit of news indicating he'll retire comes out then one indicating he won't. Don't know if you saw but KrisSilver just posted up an article in which when asked if he'd fight again, Calzaghe said "show me the money" so what does that say? We still might get the fight. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

yeah he says show me the money, and in this interview... he says a lot of fighters fight for the money, and being undefeated is worth more to me so this is my last fight

then he says pavlik isnt ready for him, and then he wants to fight pavlik... and now hes retired again

first he says bernard is a legend, and now that he beat him, hes a legend killer... NOW bernard isnt a legend and roy is..

Joe has contradicted himself on the daily...

True, he doesn't think **** through. I think he gets it from his dad. He churns out talk without thinking about what he really thinks or means.

I don't really pay much attention to what either of them say often now. I'm convinced Calzage will retire, ppl will up roar about it, and he may possibly go for a big money fight. But the scrutiny he receives while others retire with many more fight options out there, is telling.

I think the words that come out of Calzaghe's mouth get scrutinised on here more than any other fighter. They all talk **** and Joe's no different. I think he's been fairly consistent on choice of opponent and retirement. He's basically always said Jones first choice, Pavlik if not, and "I'm retiring, but I'd never say never". Problem comes when he tries to explain it, the man needs to realise he doesn't need to explain. I honestly think that you Americans really hurt his feelings with your bashing!

If that's the case, it would rule out a potential bout with WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, should the Youngstown fighter beat Bernard Hopkins on October 18 in Atlantic City. [details]
Good for Calzaghe. I respect a fighter who retires on his own terms. Now I expect to see the Pavlik cheerleaders claim "Calzaghe ducked Pavlik" which is not even close to being true.

I'm American and I agree with everything you said. Those are facts that people don't want to accept when it doesn't benefit their favorite fighter.. They do the same thing with Mayweather.

                • You know, Pavlik fans should be glad Calzaghe isn't thinking of him. Seriously. I highly doubt he can beat Joe Calzaghe. Not with those flat feet...

please dont ever throw the "you americans" at my face again...

i base my opinion on a fighter, his skillset and resume, not which country he comes from... so dont ever do that to me.

Doesn't HOPKINS do the same in most of his fights? Its ok for Joe to talk nonsense but not HOP? HOP sells fights with his mouth, just as Tyson, Ali any many others. I don't condone what he said to Joe, BUT I understand if they want to say "SHOW ME THE MONEY" well HOP will and did show him the money. Jones will do the same. PAV IMO "IF" he beats HOP and does it convincingly, WILL SHOW JOE the BIGGEST of his career. HOP has a mouth too and so does Joe and his dad. HOP talks trash to SELL a fight.
