My simple questions for Kessler fans aka Calzaghe fans

WOW, I am speechless. Mundine is a good fighter now and is credible opposition. How did Mundine go against Ottke. YEAH, that is what I thought. What else do you guys have in store? I will make a thread again asking if Mundine is a credible opposition and legitimate title holder

Do you even follow boxing properly? Or did you just started watching boxing? All honest question not trying to be funny here, Mundine was a former rugby player and he fought ottke around the time when he was still developing has a fighter, Kessler fought a full-grown/improved mundine and the fight was a GREAT fight which kessler won in Mundine's backyard with a shoulder injury if i can remember correctly.

Kessler IMO is a decent boxer and but his style is too basic and not P4P material in my eyes. Calzaghe easily exposed his flaws and how a smart fighter will easily unravel his weakness. For a young prime fighter to been exposed just after 4 rounds and have no answer all for Calzaghe shows he isn’t that good. Hopkins did hurt Calzaghe and he said that himself but Kessler never had him hurt/.

His competition is atrocious seriously, Mundine. Mundine is the guy who got knocked out by Ottke. Mundien is the guy who fights bum and that is no lies and making Crazy Kim come from light heavyweight to middle to fight him. Mudnine gave Kessler a challenge and he caught him numerous times with his speed. His competition is weak the SMW division is very weak. Kessler has to options move to light heavy or middle weight and try to get a good fight but he won’t


Tayloy Pavlik Dawson Hopkins would deal with him no problems and I am not saying that because they are American

In answer to your question though, rate them as what? As 'great' boxers definitely not, but good ones, definitely. Siaca has basically been one of the better second-tier SMW fighters for a long time, the kind that's definitely good enough to fight for world titles, but usually not to win them, although he did eventually manage this with the ****ty WBA belt. That made him one of the better guys in the division, and thats why Kessler fought him, understand? Do you imagine that your favourite boxer (who is this by the way, do you even have one?) spent his career blasting out legend after legend, I guarantee you he didn't.

As for Mundine, its interesting that you should pull him up as one of Kessler's two worst titlefights, in fact he is actually one of the better ones. I'm guessing you did this because of the bad rep for fighting nobodies that he has today? Well back then he was regarded as a pretty good SMW boxer. Have you seen his handspeed, or how tough he can be. Ever even seen him fight? Mundine gave Kessler what was his toughest fight pre-Calzaghe and had you seen it, there is no way you would say Mundine was a bum. Oh yeah, and it was Mundine that the 'bum' Siaca beat for the WBA title.

So, get your head out of your arse. Like I said before, no-one on Kessler's resume is a 'great' but all of them were absolutely credible opponents. Go check out the records of Jones, Hopkins, Toney et al on boxrec and notice how many names you don't actually know. Fighting and beating the other guys in your division is what boxers do, and the guys that win get the glory and the guys that lose fade away. Kessler was the man that won, but that doesn't mean his opponents didn't have the right to be there, they did. This is boxing, realise it.

Don't rate Kessler win over Mundine that is ****ing pathetic. It makes him look worse going 12 rounds with a former NRL player and getting caught with some very good shots.

See now, this type of thing I have no problem with. You gave reasons for your opinions and I, like everyone else, can respect that. How about in future we get less of the hate threads and more posts like this?

Parts of what you say about Kessler are true. His biggest weakness is that he boxes in the orthodox style and doesn't deviate from his gameplan. Against most opponents this is enough, because he is a very fast and powerful SMW. As you say, against Calzaghe, when Calzaghe adjusted to his style he did find it difficult. You have to remember though that there are very few fighters like Joe Calzaghe able to adjust like that, and just as few who are as fast as Calzaghe, or as unorthodox. I think the majority of even very good fighters will have a hard time coping with what Kessler brings to the table and that is why I continue to rate him highly.

As for his competition, as I've posted before, I don't believe it is awesome, but to call it atrocious I think is overstating the case. If that is what you really think then you would have to call the vast majority of the careers of nearly every boxer who has ever lived atrocious too, because truthfully the standard of Kessler's opposition is well above average, and really could be a lot worse. On Mundine, I don't blame you for thinking he is a bum, because at the moment his career is descending into a joke, but did you ever ask yourself why this bum Aussie gets so much attention? It's because at one time he was regarded as a live SMW contender, with quite a bit of talent.

not sure why calzaghe fans think kessler is a super great fighter after calzaghe beat him in a somewhat close fight yet they think hopkins is total **** and most people think hopkins won that fight. calzaghe fans should be the biggest hopkins fans ever and hope he goes on to do great things so calzaghes "win" will mean more.

No-one is arguing that kessler is great. just better than people are giving him credit for. And most people do not think that hopkins won that fight. Put up a named poll and you'll see that the majority had calzaghe winning.

The one thing I very disagrees with you rating Kessler is that you think he would beat Pavlik,Dawson,Taylor and Hopkins because the way he dominated weak opponents,. I don’t rate a fighter at all until he beats a fighter with a great calibre not on his boxing ability. Kessler is unproven until he fights a good fighter and beats that he a good fighter but now he is good at most none higher. The reason I think Hopkins was Calzaghe best win is because Hopkins did stop Winky unbeaten run and Tarver also. He came into the fight ranked #4 on the P4P table and he is a very smart fighter and can make anyone look bad. He was even able to hurt Calzaghe and drop him and there is argument that Hopkins won, but my opinion Calzaghe won the fight. It’s like Tyson let’s not included Spinks. If that was the case his best win would be over Holmes a fighter who style is suited for Tyson and was dominating until the KO but Calzaghe won the fight due to his stamina. Tyson’s best win was not Bruno a prime champion fighter but Holmes a past his prime fighter just like how Hopkins style can handle Calzaghe but not Kesslers.

theres some pretty decent posts from danc1984 and abadger - i think one of the reasons why kessler stock was raised in his fight with calzaghe was that fighters like lacy, bika and manfredo who were all considered pretty good and decent opposition didn't even win a round between them vs joe calzaghe. kessler pushed him further (physically at least) than any other fighter. it made us think that if fighters like lacy, manfredo and bka are rated so highly in the SMW division then were does that out mikkel.

alot like fans of malignaggi, kessler has not beaten anyone who is a bigname but look beyond that and you can see that he is a very food fighter. anyways i dont see the point in going on about this imo kessler is top20 p4p.

imo kessler may need to move into the LHW and maybe look for some big fights there or wait till pavlik is finished with hopkins (which will be harder than most people think for kelly).

i wouldnt have kessler in my top 10 p4p but he is a very good boxer but i think his next few fights need to be taylor, froch and bute....and then i think he should move to light heavy cause there arent really any big fights at SMW at the mo...if he beat taylor and froch and moved up i think he could get some big fights at light heavy!
