So many fans condemn Calzaghe for the Hopkins fight, but if you are true boxing fan then you will know that the way Hopkins fought that night anybody would have only got a SD !
The man didn't want to fight !
Just hold, spoil, sham, cheat his way to a decision!
Who else cringed at the sight of Hopkins a great champion trying to cheat claiming he'd been hit low???
I being a Hopkins fan found this very embarrassing to watch !

Originally posted by Mr. 5minutes View Postmy reason for this thread was less about trying to make jermaine seem great but to show that with just a couple of wins a so called legend and a fighter most don't give a lot of respect to get real comparable. if jermaine fights till he's say 33 its quite possible that he could have better or even far better resume based on a name by name basis. to me joe has to fight more than just jones to say he's had a great career. to bad its so late in his career that he's finally deciding to fight big fights. I just don't understand people acting like calzaghe is the greatest fighter in this era. when asked to point out significant wins you get kessler, lacy, and hopkins. and im sure people are gonna talk about all his title defenses of what was basically a minor league belt. when did he finally unify his belt? cause I can recall that during hopkins run of defenses he sure had a lot of belts and a so called linear title.
If I had a p4p list, it would be based upon how good people are, not what they've achieved or who they've beaten. Because of this it would include Williams and Guzman rather than someone like Hatton, who IMO has a better record. Why? Because from watching their fights I think that they're better, simple as that. That's the way Calzaghe fans judge his abilities.
As for his resume, I guess it depends how you judge it. Prime Holyfield is better than anyone that Mayweather beat, but who is higher on your ATG list? There's more to judging someone than looking at their best win, even if they only have one loss.

To be honest I think that Taylor has been unlucky in terms of who he has fought. On the one hand, beating Hopkins twice, beating Spinks and drawing with Wright are excellent achievements, but all 3 of those guys tend to make their opponents look bad. Then he had to face Pavlik, who is very very good.
Some people on here have a dislike of Taylor based upon those fights and I don't think that's fair. I think that fighting Lacy will be a showcase bout for Taylor to show off his skills and I think that a lot of people will suddenly claim that they always knew how good he was etc.
It's just the way it is:
You lose to the best=You've got no heart/chin/talent.
You beat a lesser fighter=You're great.
I think that Taylor will beat Lacy and then Froch/Pascal, and after that anything could happen.
Also remember that there are all sorts of events that could improve how Taylor is seen. If Marquez beats Abraham, it makes Taylor's resume better because it will show that people underrated Marquez. I don't think that will happen, but you never know.
