Is 24 too old??? HELL NO! Seriously, there's guys that I know that are a bit past that and still plan to go pro.....
Even if you were 30. You really only live once. Life is way to short to not do what you want and love.Comment

Well then I guess I'll join it, and we can let our stories be told. How about this, I win Houston, you win NY. We will hold it down for our cities.
If you join, I'll join. So I know that I am not the only one. And vice versa.Comment

Yeah I already talked it over with my fiance, but I am not telling anyone else because I dont want to hear any ****, even if they are just playing.Comment

You've might have been an ass on this forum, but its cool kid.
The sport is about dedication.. If you say to yourself that you wanna turn pro, then you can do it. Get some sparring in, get back in shape.. Make good use of those 6 months. Don't everexert yourself though.. I've done that alot, but yea. Its never to old son. Age aint ****.. Untill you're like 30 or some**** you feel me.
Like "The Greatest" said.
"Champions aren't made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them -- a desire, a dream, a vision." -Muhammad Ali
If you have a desire to box, then do it. Age aint **** bro.
Boxing is lucky im going through finacial issues. Its me by myself.. If it wasn't for that.. My ass would've been got them Golden Gloves.. Im turning 21 and im not stopping just yet.. Yea its only 21, but I feel old.. So I would understand why you're asking if 24 is to old.
Take those 6 months.. Train your ass off. No interuptions. You'll be in shape in no time. When you think you're not in shape.. That's when you're ****ed.. its all in the mind. Don't even think about it. Mind plays games with you. Treat the mind as if its an X you're trying to aviod. FORGET ABOUT IT!

haha, well then your plan will be delayed. im 24 but the plan I concocted with my trainer is to fight novice GG NEXT january (2010) which will be my last hurrah before going open. until then i am just milking my under 10 fights (like a club event every 6 weeks)... so, basically I will be 25 by then. other than that though, it sounds like a good plan if you don't mind waiting for me to fulfill my end of the bargain. what weight class u in?!? im floating b/w 165 and 178 at the moment. i walk around at 170-175 (depending on whether i have just worked out, or eaten, etc) but i have very little body fat and 165 may be pushing it....Comment

At your weight class, if you dont have good am skills, you better fight bums or you'll end up like Ali and Holyfield.Alright so some of you guys know my story or know that I train some fighters. Well, I am thinking about turning pro. But I am 24 years but havent fought in years. And havent been to the gym in about 6 months. Right now I am 6'3 225, but 3 or 4 years ago, I was walking around at 190- 195. So I am out of shape right now.
My father was an assistant trainer to fighters like ex-world champ Jesse Benavidez, Lupe Saurez and some others. He was Kenny Weldon's assistant for years. So I have always boxed and grew up boxing. I was going to go to the Marines and box for them, but 9-11 happened and I backed out. Then I decided I would do it on my own, but life got me and I had to work and school, and I couldnt dedicate enough time to boxing.
I never lost as an am, but that was when I was 8th grade. Every time Golden Gloves came around Something came up, especially when I moved with my mother when I was 15. We didnt have any money to pay gym dues, much less buy me equipment. But I kept training myself, but my father wouldnt let me fight in the GG because I didnt have the proper training at the time. I always wanted to but either I couldnt afford it, or my mom and dad didnt let me.
I have trained and sparred with some fighters over at the gym where Juan Diaz trains here in Houston. But nothing serious in years. I have gotten rave reviews from Holyfield, Ronnie Shields, Hylon Williams Jr., Dominick Guinn and some other fighters. Holyfield saw me sparring with one of my fighters and training him and he told me " Damn, you really know what you're doing" and Ronnie Shields told me" You should box, and train others later". Dominick told me I should box, and to spar with him, but I am out of boxing shape, also Swamp Donkey and Holyfield wanted me to spar with them also. I am not trying to brag but I am really good at boxing, and still have that fire in me to get at least a few pro fights. I still have it, but lost some speed and power along the way. But I know its something I think I can get back with a few months in the gym.
So I ask the question,
1 - Am I too Old to take the advice of some of these fighters and trainers to actually dedicate myself and turn pro?
And
2 - Do you think that I should turn pro, with about 6 months training, or am I too far away from my glory days to be what I think I could have been and could be?Comment

I am walking around at 223 right now, but I can easily get down to 190, EASY. But I might just fight at HW because I dont know if I can get down to LHW. 178 would would be to small for me.haha, well then your plan will be delayed. im 24 but the plan I concocted with my trainer is to fight novice GG NEXT january (2010) which will be my last hurrah before going open. until then i am just milking my under 10 fights (like a club event every 6 weeks)... so, basically I will be 25 by then. other than that though, it sounds like a good plan if you don't mind waiting for me to fulfill my end of the bargain. what weight class u in?!? im floating b/w 165 and 178 at the moment. i walk around at 170-175 (depending on whether i have just worked out, or eaten, etc) but i have very little body fat and 165 may be pushing it....Comment

Antonio Tarver was almost 30 when he turned pro. So no, I don't think age would be a problem.Comment
