Whatever factors came into play it was still a good Hopkins win. I like the Tarver fight for the same reason you do, I remember looking at the size differential in the ring and thinking WTF!!! You have to admit though, Tarver was shockingly bad in that fight!
Yeah Tarver looked horrible. But on the other hand Hopkins was at his best. Easily one of the best performance by a 40+ year old boxer in the twilight of their career IMO. Plus I can't feel sorry for Tarver because he's such an *******, claiming someone "poisoned" him before the fight. Get the **** out of here, he was too busy rubbing elbows with Stallone to train properly.

As for Tito, the difference in size was noteable, but he was impressive at Middleweight regardless. Hopkins bet Joppy $100,000 that he'd knock him out and tried his best to make good on it, but just couldn't manage, so he had to pay up. Trinidad did in Joppy in 5 lopsided rounds. I just get tired of people never mentioning that.

      When they fought Calzaghe

      Mikkel Kessler
      Age:28

      P4P Status: Wasn’t in the top 10
Wins before the fight: Librado Andrade and Markus Beyer Neither in the p4p list

      The fight

Calzghe dominated, Kessler had no answer loses in a UD

      Bernard Hopkins
      Age: 43

P4P Status: Was in the top 5
Wins before the fight: Ronald Wright Antonio Tarver Both were in the p4p list.
      The fight

It was an ugly fight. Hopkins knocked down Calzaghe, but loses his stamina. Calzaghe wins in a SD, but some had Hopkins winning.

      - HBO's Harold Lederman scored the bout 116-111 for Calzaghe.
      - Associated Press, Yahoo, and ESPN scored the bout 114-113 for Hopkins.

The reason why they say Kessler was Calzaghe best wins

1 They don’t want to say their fighter’s best win was over a 43 year old man which included a knock down.

2 They don’t want an old yank to be his hardest fight

3 Saying Kessler was harder makes Europeans fighters look better, hence helping Calzaghe resume.

4 They are Hoping Kessler becomes a very good fighter years later hence saying that was Calzaghe best win

5 Hopkins made Calzaghe look like an amateur

Hopkins was Calzaghe best win; there is no need to deny this. Hopkins is the better fighter and his status was higher at the time when they fought and gave Calzaghe a harder fight.

that was Calzaghe 1st fight at Lightheavyweight. Remember Hopkins makes everybody bad everybody. Kessler is easier to figure out and not as cagey and defensive minded as Hopkins and leavres himself open cause he throws more punches. As far as Hopkins making joe look like an amatuer is making Hopkins look like a bum. Calzaghe is better just get over it.

B-hop was his best win, not the most impressive but the best.

kessler was just a well seasoned fighter who had been fed hand picked opponents, like calzaghe. both were overrated

Couple of points here, then I'm going to go away and leave you morons to play with each other.

          1. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who keeps going on about how "Hopkins really won that fight" is either a liar, ******, or really good at self deception. You can ***** about the scorecards all you want, but he lost, pure and simple. I can't give more than 4 rounds (including the first) to Hopkins, no matter how many times I see it. And personally, if I wanted to be a Calzaghe nuthugger, I'd deduct a point for his intentional fight delay after the low-blow claim he made when he just badly needed a breather. After all, if you're going to score the fight, score the whole fight, right?

          2. You can think ANY fight was someone's "best fight", that's simply a matter of opinion. In my opinion, Hopkins was too old, and didn't actually make a fight of it, just a wrestling match with a few fouls tossed in amongst the grabbing. Why? Refer to my earlier statement in this second point...he's too old, and just doesn't have a meaningful work rate against someone who throws as much as Calzaghe without getting completely gassed and risking getting stopped...remember that break he had to take?

          3. Who's the ****ing nutcase that implied Calzage was almost KO'd by Hopkins? Can't recall who you were, but you need to watch more boxing if you even think he was hurt, much less almost knocked out.

          4. Compubox, compubox, compubox....great stuff, right? Yeah, it's total ****, but it works in favor of both fighters, and even if that weren't the case, why bother even looking at that silly ****, or even mentioning it?

Now, back to my first point....If you're even a little non-biased and actually watch the fight without deliberately scoring in favor of one or the other, you can't give Hopkins more than 4 rounds, at the very most 5, and even that is only possible if you ignore his crybaby tactics later on. And that (5 rounds to 7) still gives Zaggs the fight by a point. And if you're giving Hopkins more than 5 rounds, you should, RIGHT NOW, reach up and gouge your ****ing eyes out, since you're not using them anyway and you ought not to bother carrying something that's so useless to you.

          Now then, my opinion.

No, Hopkins wasn't Calzaghe's most impressive win, though in many ways it is his most important. Even though Hopkins is an old man, he's smart, cagey, a massive spoiler, and known for being able to have his way with nearly anyone in the ring, even at his advanced age. However, Hopkins is about to retire (right after the Pavlik fight), and when people look back at the Zaggs/Hopkins fight they're going to see that, while it was a good victory, there was nothing spectacular about it, just an old guy smart enough to know how to survive a much busier, younger guy.

Personally, I think the Lacy fight was Calzaghe's best win, if only because it was so unexpected and dramatic, and caused the entire boxing world to sit up and take notice.

The Kessler fight was a great fight, and turned out exactly how I expected it to, but in my opinion wasn't his best victory, and neither was Hopkins.

That was Calzaghe first fight at LHW that adds to more reasons why it's the better win. Calzaghe better than Hopkins, I don't think so
