I agree Morales quit, but he went down from actual punches whereas Miguel went down from fear.
oh btw, Morales is my all time favorite and I have no problem saying he quit that night. He could have continued but its obvious he realized he was no longer the same fighter whos health could afford such a beatdown.
Sometimes its better to be called a quitter and live another day than be called a dead warrior.Comment

Well I guess other people can see it differently if they want, but not being a professional boxer myself and only being in the ring when I was young I don't think that justifies me as saying a pro boxer like Cotto quit. Even somebody like Morales I didn't think quit. He just knew that Pac was too strong that night it was only gonna lead him to getting beat up even worse.
and that means he gave up, cashed in, didn't want to fight anymore,
aka
QUIT!Comment

Taking two voluntary knees without taking a punch is quitting.Comment

Morales would've done the chicken dance if he had gotten up right away. And that would be more embarassing.Comment

To me quitting is not even giving whatever it is a try. I mean Cotto gave everything he had for 10+ rounds against Magarito's pressure and harmful shots and just didn't have anything left. I mean yeah that second KD he didn't take a punch, but **** he sure did for the 10+ rounds before that.
Quitting is like something Zelenoff did in his fight. He took one punch and found a way out of the fight. You know like a kid that goes out for a sport and then quits within the first few days of practice.Comment

First round or 11th, if a fighter chooses on his own accord to drop to the canvas, not just once, but twice,
its means he gave up, didn't want anymore,
quit.
With that said, I think it was the right thing for him to do and I don't really hold it against him as much as others do. I think there is still a great future for him but it will never happen against Antonio Margarito. I give Miguel his props win or lose because he actually stepped in to face the beast that is Margarito whereas all of the sports biggest names, simply refused.
That is where I get my like for particular fighters, whether they seek out greatness or not.
Cotto dared to be great. I love that in a fighter.Comment
