All the people arguing whether he quit or not, who the **** cares! the guy was obviously spent, he was beaten to a pulp and it was obvious by his facial expression that he couldn't continue to receive any more punishment. If his corner wouldn't of thrown in the towel that guy could of seriously gotten hurt or possibly killed in that ring. So whether he quit or not, it doesn't matter, the man lost the battle.
Cotto did not quit!!!!!!!!!

I am a Cotto fan and really wanted him to win. I havent seen too much of Antonio except for his last Cintron fight and as much as I am gutted to see Cotto lose I have nothing but respect for both men. Cotto clearly showed his ability to outbox the mexican in the early rounds who appeared to be very frustrated. Then Marg started to wear Cotto down, as much as Im a fan Cotto frustrated me by always letting himself get backed onto the ropes and allowed himself to take punishment. I knew from teh Cintron fight that Marg could do damage and the latter part of the fight it appeared that Cotto almost let that happen. Marg is a true warrior and a tough as hell fighter. Cotto is still young and I still think its possible for him to beat Marg in a rematch but the mexican was clearly better in the latter half of the fight and showed how tough he is despite being outboxed in the first half. Cotto ran out of steam and allowed Marg to do his thing. Thats what I saw on Saturday night. Well done Marg I say - Cotto equally well done and he will bounce back from this...he is young and will learn from it.
Oh and hello everyone on the forums - this is my first post!!Comment

I just find it interesting that people can't give Cotto full respect in a loss, especially after giving the fans a fight that exciting and brutal. Why not give a man who just fought his ass off for 10.5 rounds the benefit of the doubt? A man who has never given up before, a guy known for having a ton of resolve...?
Just something that bothers me. He got beat down, lost and made no excuses. If he wanted to quit he would have done it at the end of the 10th or he would have stayed on a knee after getting pummeled and dropped for the first time.Comment

The only reason it is being argued is because it undermines a great fight and a proud fighter who put his life on the line, lost and made no excuses. All the people arguing whether he quit or not, who the **** cares! the guy was obviously spent, he was beaten to a pulp and it was obvious by his facial expression that he couldn't continue to receive any more punishment. [QUOTE=dstew;3843984]If Cotto wanted to keep fighting (i.e. NOT quit) he wouldn't have nodded at his corner when they waved the towel at him. Find the HBO PPV, they show a ringside angle where you get a close-up of Cotto's face and you can clearly see him give his corner the nod.

Just out of curiousity, how do you know his corner isn't yelling to him and asking if he wants to keep fighting? The man lost, but its still funny how people see what they want to see.
The only thing I saw was two warriors put it all on the line for 11 rounds in one of the best fights of the year.Comment

The people who are not giving any credit to Cotto are most likely Mayweather-cum-gurglers, shame on them, the guy fought an excellent fight (although on his bike all night) and display his boxing ability as well as his punch combo/accuracy but felt short to the stronger, greater willed, better conditioned, stronger chinned, better fighter in Antonio Margarito.Comment

As if your Margarito ****-blowin' ass is even tryin to talk **** about a different group of nut-huggers. Both of your groups are ****in' sickning. Love the sport. You could look at it like this, why ****-ride one when you can straddle em all? That appeals 2 you, no?The people who are not giving any credit to Cotto are most likely Mayweather-cum-gurglers, shame on them, the guy fought an excellent fight (although on his bike all night) and display his boxing ability as well as his punch combo/accuracy but felt short to the stronger, greater willed, better conditioned, stronger chinned, better fighter in Antonio Margarito.Comment
