That would simply be your interpretation. Duran turning his back on Leonard or Freitas waving off his fight against Corrales is a clear case of quitting. Try respecting these warriors enough to give them the benefit of the doubt. Miguel Cotto left everything he had in the ring Saturday night.
Cotto did not quit!!!!!!!!!

Obviously I'm not arguing YOUR interpretation; that's your job. We are not going to see eye to eye on this. That would simply be your interpretation. Duran turning his back on Leonard or Freitas waving off his fight against Corrales is a clear case of quitting. Try respecting these warriors enough to give them the benefit of the doubt. Miguel Cotto left everything he had in the ring Saturday night.
I'm learning that some of you are so blindly driven by macho pride that you are interpreting it as an insult when I say that Cotto quit. I've already stated I have tons of respect for the guy and what he managed to do for most of 11 rounds Saturday night. I wanted him to win. He gave it everything he had, but it wasn't enough, and he knew it. As the 11th round wore on, his body language showed me he knew he couldn't handle any more. He did the smart thing by taking knees instead of taking the inevitable knockout. There is no shame in that.
We clearly have differing opinions on what happened and different approaches to what it means to quit. I can respect your view but I don't agree with it.Comment

I gotta say that the morning after the fight i posted that Cotto did not quit and was pretty venomous about it ... BUT after watching the fight 3 more times since I have to say that just prior to the corner throwing the towel in you can clearly see Cotto shake his head and say "no" in the direction of his corner. This was not apparent when watching live BUT it did happen, to me that means that YES he did quit.
This DOES NOT mean that Cotto did not give his all that night and that he doesnt deserve massive respect for the performance on the night.Comment

cotto Did Not Quit!
Taking A Knee Was Smart, And Also To Prevent It From Being Stopped.
Then He Would Get Up And Take Another Knee And Get Up Again, Then When He Looks To The Corner, You See Evanalista Cotto By The Ropes With The Towel Already, And Basically Cotto Said "**** It, They're There Already, Might As Well Stop It"
What's Cotto Gonna Do? Force His Uncle Not To Stop The Fight? He Was Already Half Way In The Ring.
Ya People On This Site Are Some ****s You Know That? Its Like Its A 7th Grade Forum.

He lost his balance?!?!?! Wow, that is stretching it, he went down under the preassure, he didn't want it anymore.Actually once the corner steps on the apron they were throwing in the towel, if not it would have been a DQ. Cotto looked over to them, saw them doing it and had a look like yeah, the fights over. When he did that, the fight was already over. He was looking at the ref while he was counting ready to go back and then looks over to them.
And also, the last knee he took, his right foot slipped and he had nothing left to keep his balance.
I respect Cotto, I do. He is a great fighter but he gave in, quit, didn't want to continue...however you want to word it. The last knee he TOOK (not slip or lose his balance) he didn't even get hit by a punch. He was a broken man.Comment

Ya watching it again no he didnt slip. I wasnt saying he lost his balance I was saying he had no energy to keep it. I'm taking nothing away from Margaritos win, it was an amazing preformance, I just didnt see Cotto quit, the fight was already over and he knew it, but that not to say he wouldnt have fought on if the corner didnt jump in.Comment

Whether or not Cotto quit is a debate that will rage on for as long as this fight is remembered and discussed. But can it least be agreed upon that he had the fight beaten out of him at that point?Comment
