some people will cry like little girls and find a way to discredit the win..

he could have had ten mins break before resuming it would have made no difference.. Marg had broken Cotto's will to fight. he went down after without taking a shot.

I thought Cotto showed alot of heart in the last few rounds but he just got beatdown mentally aswell in my opinion.

      no one is Crying.
This is what you call injustice.
A Ref did not abide by the laws of boxing.

Domain- your thread is motivated by ******ation and hate and anger that you lost your prediction.

Just getting that out of the way. That having been said, even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

And you are right, the ref could have taken a point away or called it a DQ. But that's a subjective issue. The fight was pretty much over at that point, so most refs won't waste time with things like that. If Cotto didn't seem ready to quit, then the ref not doing something about it may be a bigger issue. As it stand the ref seemed ready to stop the fight because he saw that Cotto was done.

If Cotto acted like a ***** like Griffin did, he might have gotten the DQ, but I doubt that. Griffin did that after the foul had been called if I remember correctly, that one was not called.

Here is what the rules say.

Notice that the rules don't allow the referee to make a judgement call on the time out for five minutes or whether or not it is a foul. The decision to deduct a point or DQ is a judgement call.
Here it is in black and white and if Cotto had a five minute time out there is a very good chance he would have made it through that round and possible the fight. If a point was taken away and he had another good round in the 12th he could have won or had a split decision.

            7. HITTING AN OPPONENT WHILE HE IS DOWN

This is a serious harmful foul that usually occurs when an opponent is already hurt. The Referee should be aware that most times this blow comes as part of a combination of blows. Nevertheless, it is still a foul and should be immediately addressed as it may call for a deduction of points or disqualification.

In this situation the Referee will immediately call “Time!” and signal to the Timekeeper to start the clock for (5) five minutes. The Referee will then notify the Supervisor and Commission Table that a foul has occurred and what he intends to do.

Suitable hand signal: With your index finger point to the ground and strike an open hand with your fist.

no offense domain but thats picking at straws as to why cotto didnt win.

i think at that point its not even worth arguing especially since (as other posters have pointed out) the punch was already in motion to be landed just as the knee touched the ground...i dont think it was intentional...

i dont think margarito would do that...as much as he likes to brawl and war and be nuts in the ring i dont think he's that kind of person.

giving cotto 5 mins to recover would have got him out of the round...but i think at that point he would have been too far gone (still) to win in the end.

i dont think it was a bad call by the ref NOT to call the foul...i think since the punch and the knee were so close together (saying he knee touching the ground and margarito swinging the punch) that he figured it was unintentional...

The Ref ****ed up he should of gave cotto 5 minutes to recover!

The Soto DQ was bull****. That said, these thing happen in boxing. I do think had the ref given him 5 minutes it might have changed the outcome of the fight. Margarito would probably have still won, but Cotto might have recouped enough strength to survive. Who knows? It was a great fighht no matter what.

It only would of made a difference if that biased Puto-Rican Cortez was refereeing the fight, Kenny is a good ref and understands when a fighter is on a bloodlust mode. Stop making excuses you puto **** Domain, go shadowbox in a corner you useless ****.

Why is this even being debated...If it was a foul the Ref. would have called it...Kenny Bayless is one of the best the game has to offer...Its was a fair call IMO..No need to ***** about!
