The credulity of some posters is wonderful to behold. The call on the Creator to curse and punish Calzaghe, or, in different circumstaces, another inoffensive fighter, whose only crime has been that he won't do what they want him to.
I was very surprised when I'd read that Calzaghe had given up the WBO Title, thinking that he had no reason to, and that his longevity with this title was a large part of his real claim to fame. This should teach everyone that one should WAIT until the dust of connjecture and speculation, rumour and lies has settled, so that the REAL facts can become clear.
It looks as if Joe will have his multi-year title even if he loses to Jones, and, by defending successfully against a few more 168 pounders, or 160 pounders moving up, he'll have made a NEW undefeated record for a weight class. I HOPE HE DOES, and then we can shovel the infamous 49-0 into the dung pile where it should have been all the time.
At the same time, I wonder wht we never hear anything about Ricardo Lopez' 50-0-1 record. Could it be that it's because he's not an American, or perhaps that the "draw" (which was really a win) is regarded as having interfered with his unbeaten record.
NO- that couldn't be it, because with a draw, a fighter is still unbeaten.....so I wonder what it can be?????????
Maybe someone out there has the answer, I'd like to know.
