Joe Calzaghe Will Return To 168 After Roy Jones Jr.

Ok people. Joe has never said he cant make 168 what he HAS said is its tough for him.
He can make the weight. He does not beleive in adding muscle and lifting weights and stuff like that because he beleives boxing is about skill and speed. In his book he told us making weight is not easy but he's done it that long he knows how to do it and still be strong at the weight. That wont change after two fights at 175 because of the very reason that he does NOT add muscle.
Its fairly obvious to me from his statement that he wants to fight again. He's always maintained that he'll only call it quits when he feels he cant do it at the top level anymore but has also stated in the past that he feels he could "do a Hopkins" and fight into his 40's. Although he also said that he wouldn't want to do that because he's been boxing for 25 years.
Calzaghe has been after the big fights and the big money for years now. Why would he just up and retire when he's still as good as ever (if not better) and is in the position to make the huge $$$$ fights?
IMHO he'll fight Roy this year and fight twice in 09 before he calls it a day. He'll beat Roy fairly easily (its to be expected) then he'll face Pavlik who the fans want him to face. Pavlik is tailor made for Calzaghe, he loves nothing more than a fighter who comes forward throwing a lot of shots while leaving thereself open. Not only will Calzaghe beat Pavlik he'll look great doing it.
I think he'll go out facing Carl Froch possibly. Only if Froch can get the win over JT though, but if he does he'll become big business in the UK and American fans will also know who he is because of Taylors marquee value.Last edited by TommyGunn.; 07-16-2008, 08:43 PM.

If Joe moves to 168 and doesn't fight Pavlik...
...it doesn't make Joe any less of a fighter, but boxing fans will have been robbed, and the sport is poorer for it.
The truth is that for all that was said last year about the progress that was made in the sport, absent the Cotto/Margarito fight the powers at be have not capitalized on it, and that's a shame.
Make it happen JOE!!!!

Aint no way he's moving back down for anybody but Pavlik and when he beats Pavlik some posters are going to have to give the man the respect he deserves. Not that some will of course. Any excuse to disrespect Calzaghe will be taken by some haters.

If he beats RJJ and Pavlik (and i think he will) who will be left?? I suppose a Tarver or Dawson or maybe Froch like others have mentioned.....?
I think he shouldnt push his luck to much though, Pavlik and then retire, i wanna see him fight Pavlik because even as a big Calzaghe fan i would lose just a little respect for him if he retired after Jones...beat Pavlik and he is without a doubt the best fighter between 160-175 and can retire with a much better legacy, for me its all about the Pavlik fight!!
