He'll struggle, but he'll be making it for the same reason he's fighting Roy, money. He'll make huge money from fighting Pavlik if he beats Roy. The casual fan will be interested.

I call BS on this one. He was having big time problems making weight at 168 his last few fights there. What the hell happened for him to all of a sudden want to go back down? Either he was BS'ing the extent of his weight problems or he wants to fight Pavlik or he wants to continue adding more defenses to his 21 or all of the above. This article came out of left field.

I think he is just keeping his options open for now. He may not fight again after Roy. After the fight though, he may decide to fight Pavlik and having the WBO belt would be something to defend for him.

He is keeping his options open. Smart move.

The first good decision Calzlappy has made in a LONG TIME. His legacy is based around the rock solid defenses of that belt, and he should defend it to the last instead of retiring directly after facing a washed up Jones Jr.
And this means that after he disposes of Jones Jr. we could see Calzlappy-Froch, Calzlappy-Taylor, or the dream fight Calzlappy-Pavlik.

WTF??? hes prolly just doing this to hold on to it a lil longer.......in case he wakes up a decides he wants to keep going. Must be tough to let it go.....

He could just be doing it to keep hold of the belt, and keep his options open. He may well still not fight again after Roy, so ppl shouldn't get their hopes up too much only to then criticise him madly due to disapointment. I just don't think it's likely, he'd be more transparent about who he'd fight if he did, not even got that. He's basically just said, oh ok I'll fight again, lemme keep the belt.

                  Yeah Yeah,
If this goes down, Calzaghe V Pavlik after the Jones Jr fight
The man can then retire an undefeated all time GREAT!!!

personally i think its more about the belt than anything else... the story of joe calzaghe started when he droppped Eubank in the 1st and took the vacant WBO... his defining acheivement is the number of defences and the length of time he's held that belt... i think he does want to retire after jones - he's never been one for talking crap... but knowing that he's had that belt by his side for 10+ years just makes it hard to let it go... besides Pavlik isnt even the fight that he would HAVE to take at super middle.... Froch has been calling him out for a couple of years now and was the mandatory b4 Joe vacated the WBC... i cant see how he could justify fighting anyone else at s.middle (especially if Froch beats Taylor).

yeah Pavlik / Calzaghe would be good.... but for me he definately has to beat Abraham first and then would still need to fight a REAL contender in super middle (mayb Froch if he remains undeafeted or even Kessler) before he challenges the first undisputed s. middle weight champ in history.

Good stuff if he goes back to 168 to face Pavlik. Although he does struggle to get down to 168, he has been doing that his whole career and i dont think he struggles as bad as ppl make out. He weighed in 166 against Kessler.
