It didint have to be on PPV, HBO paid for the fight. The only reason fights like the one against Malignaggi and a few other of Cottos smaller ppvs got on ppv was because HBO didint want to set aside one of their dates to have it. If HBO didint pay for practically half of floyds fights, then a chavez/mayweather fight wouldnt have done well at all, especially considering the weightclass.

just goes to show how delusional and out of touh with reality you are.. Mayweather wouldn't of made what he did with Baldo had he not fought Gatti in his first PPV.
He had problems getting people to fill seats in his backyard for that Baldo fight too...

Thats the thing, you are assuming that mayweather and cotto were promoted the same way. They werent, Cotto has been brought up as the second coming since he turned pro after 2000. Mayweather wasnt, more or less they wanted mayweather to be a sugar ray leonard type, always smiling saying the right things etc, but mayweather isnt and is never going to be like that.

Cotto for one, comes from puerto rico, a nation that supports and gets behind their marquee fighters no matter what.

Floyd was never promoted and has never been pushed like that, being a black american, theres alot of competition among elite atheltes that are well, black and american, so its harder to carve that market share especially when the sport is on a downturn right now. Floyd fought some great fights, i remember when he was on USA network, ESPN and then HBO. But again, he wasnt brought up the same way. He was under the radar for YEARS...until he started running his mouth. Once he sold himself as an ******* it worked. And its worked to this day.

Cotto has had quite a few PPVs, but have any of them surpassed mayweathers worst, which is 325k? Im just wondering because honestly i dont know.

Cotto has a built-In FanBase.
But Unlike Tito his BUILT fanbase is small. and doesnt support him like they did tito

Back then no it wouldnt have, mayweather wasnt in that mode yet. He was still alot more humble then and had a bit less mouthpiece. it might have done 75-125k if that.

But that isnt the point, the point was that a network was willing to shell out money for that chavez/mayweather fight, he didint have to be on some small market ppv because obviously HBO felt he was worth it.

The Promotional team ****** BIG TIME with this fight.......they were expecting it to sell itself with hardly no advertisement. I went to the Holt Torres fight and didn't see any ads up or even on the MGM's sign, there was no ads what so ever!!! And to top it off up until a week ago most L.A newspapers were advertising this fight taking place in Madisons Square Gardens..... I had to convince my pops and his friends that the fight was here in Vegas.

yes and no, cotto is big, but unlike trinidad, he doesnt have that crossover fanbase, thats the only thing hes missing, mostly because hes very uncharismatic, he doesnt need to be a big talker or pull a mayweather, he just needs to show some personality and some character, trinidad never spoke english, but he carried himself like he was something to be seen and thats all cotto is missing right now, he has everything else, including a crowd pleasing style.
