While both were matched carefully and beat some very good fighters, Maweather fought the better line of figthers IMO and took the much bigger risks. People tend to forget that Jones spent half of his prime years on HBO defending his titles against people that didn't have a chance such as Glen Kelly and that fireman Richard Frazier..lol. At least Mayweather fought guys that were actually top 10 in the division.

Castillo, Coralles, Hatton, Judah, Baldomir, Hernandez, De La Hoya, Jesus Chaves, Ndou, Gatti...against a well before his prime Hopkins and James Toney?!

Floyd wins this one hands down, anyone who thinks otherwise is a ****ing blind nut hugger. Jones looked a lot better, I love his style but he just didn't fight ANYONE!!!

Floyd took more risks, Roy definately was picking his fights in the second half of his career, if you are looking exclusively at career accomplishments against prime competition Mayweather definately took more risks against competition who actually had a shot before the fight started.

LOL I think he was a cop wasn't he? But yeah, that fight was a joke. Whilst some of Roy's wins were against fairly garbage fighters I still think his resume is stronger than Floyd's. A lot of the guys Roy fought were top 10 and top 5 contenders, they were just no match. Take Virgil Hill, a very very accomplished LHW, he got totally demolished by Roy. Floyd did not do similar things to similar standard opponents.

                Physical gifts: Roy
                Polished fighter: Mayweather

Better (on paper) accolades: Roy due to collecting belts and winning a HW belt.
Better opposition/wins: Mayweather due to fighting tougher fights and winning

Close, but I think Roy's title collection and style may lead many to believe he was the MUCH better fighter in history. However, I look at Mayweather as the more polished fighter who beat an overall, more well rounded opposition.

Overall talent/gifts shouldn't be the #1 determining factor in this. They were both awesomely gifted in different ways. Jones' gifts were accented through flash and handspeed. Mayweather's gifts were accented through more accuracy, polished and well rounded in and out fighting.

Yeah, matter of fact he was a cop..lol. On Virgil Hill, Jones fought Hill one fight after Hill was beaten by Darius Michalczewski. Don't get me wrong, Jones fought some very good fighters, but Mayweather took much more risks IMO and beat better fighters at thier best. He seeked the bigger money later in his career, but even Hatton was on the pound for pound list and De La Hoya was champion at a bigger weight division. Mayweather's managment was criticized early in his career for matching him too fast becuase he only had 17 fights when first won the super feathweight WBC by beating Genaro Hernandez.

Yeah I agree the win over Hernandez was a massive one for Floyd. I think both of their resumes are overrated to be honest. I do think though that Roy has been harmed a little by his own brilliance. He was making guys like Hall, Telesco, R.Johnson, Grant, Woods and others look like total bums in that period of complete dominance at LHW. Also, I rate Roy's win over an unbeaten Toney as better than any of Floyd's. Floyd's wins over Hatton and Oscar are a little overstated also in relation to their importance. Hatton is a jr welter who was very overrated and totally outclassed anyway whilst Oscar is a fair way past his prime and has not fought at a very high level for a number of years.

I agree that on paper Toney on paper is better than anyone that Mayweather has fought, but if we were judging on the circumstances then i would have that Corales was better than anyone that Jones has faced and presented a bigger challenge. While Toney was unbeaten, he had to be hospitalized and hooked up to Ivs before the fight from killing himself to make the 168 pound weight limit. People say that Corales was weight drained against Mayweather, when its simply an excuse IMO. Corales continued to fight dominately at super featherweight even after the loss to Mayweather and beat some very good opponents in the process. After Toney's loss to Jones, he immediately moved up to light heavyweight. Hatton was a very good fighter a well, but i must agree that he was past his weight class. Even then, he was still pound for pound one of the best fighters in the world. Judging by the circumstaces, Ruiz or Hill would probably be the best fighters that Jones has beaten IMO.
